]]> Panchiko are a four-piece indie rock band from Nottingham, England consisting of lead vocalist and guitarist Owain Davies, guitarist and keyboardist Andrew “Andy” Wright, bassist Shaun Ferreday, and a drummer named John. Panchiko’s members were childhood friends with cheap equipment, who founded the band in 1997 as teenagers. On 21 July 2016, a 4chan user reported that they had found a copy of D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L in an Oxfam charity store in Sherwood, Nottingham. The songs, affected with disc rot, were shared via Mega and Zippyshare download links. The record became a cult classic through circulation on the Internet such as through the YouTube channel dismiss yourself, until Owain and the other members of Panchiko were contacted by their fans through Facebook.

The band released their “D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L” EP in 2000, which was recorded in their room, as well as another EP titled “Kicking Cars“. On February 16, 2020, D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L was remastered and re-released online along with three tracks from Kicking Cars by the band, exactly 20 years after its official release.

Bassist Pino Palladino (D’Angelo, Nine Inch Nails, Erykah Badu, John Mayer) and guitarist and producer Blake Mills (Alabama Shakes, Bob Dylan, Fiona Apple, Perfume Genius) reunite with That Wasn’t a Dream, their second collaborative instrumental album that builds on the deep chemistry they first explored on 2021’s Notes With Attachments, expanding it into a meditative, boundary-pushing sonic world. The record blurs lines between composition and improvisation, melody and abstraction. With contrapuntal interplay by sometimes unidentifiable instruments, it’s a project defined by ambiguity, restraint, and the radical beauty of listening closely.

]]> Malloy James is a composer, musician, and sound designer whose work moves fluidly across genres from classical to jazz to neo-soul, embracing a genre-less sensibility that resists fixed categories.

Trained in classical composition and sound engineering, James approaches music with a deep sensitivity to how sound shapes perception, space, and experience. His practice moves seamlessly between concert composition and immersive sound design, crafting intricate sonic environments and detailed soundscapes for live shows, exhibitions, and architectural spaces. Known for his genre-fluid approach, James builds layered sound worlds that draw from diverse musical languages — blending orchestral structure, improvisational textures, and electronic atmospheres into cohesive sonic narratives.

His work includes the creation of layered, atmospheric sound worlds for runway presentations during New York Fashion Week, including sound design contributions for Stance and Balenciaga, as well as bespoke sonic compositions for jewelry houses such as Repossi — where precision, texture, and rhythm are treated with the same care as material and form.

Recent projects range from immersive environments for Lexus International, the National Building Museum, and the Miami Design District, to collaborations with leading architects and designers — including a recent collaboration with architect Suchi Reddy and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Across these works, James composes sound that is both spatial and emotional, shaping how audiences move through and remember environments.

James has participated in a number of prestigious residencies, including the inaugural artist residency at Alvar Aalto’s Paimio Sanatorium in Finland, the Ragdale Foundation, and serving as the Distinguished Fellow for the 2024 season at the Design Akademie Saaleck in Germany. He also crafts original compositions for brands, television, and film, creating nuanced soundscapes that establish mood and elevate narrative without overpowering it.

Currently, James is developing Atlas, an expansive project mapping sound and music to space, place, and time.
