Known to many as the vocalist and co-writer of the electronic duo Vallis Alps, Parissa Tosif has long navigated two worlds: the luminous pulse of modern pop and the spiritual inheritance of her Iranian ancestry. In a landscape where much of pop music trades in surfaces, Parissa Tosif offers depth — a mirror held up to memory, identity, and the quiet resilience of ordinary lives in extraordinary times. With the spirit of household classics as Kourosh Yaghmaei and Googoosh to James Blake and Sevdaliza, her music is a bold contemplation of connection to place from the place of the diaspora.

The group met as teenagers in the early 2020s while playing in various projects around the Adelaide music scene and bonded over their love of 90s alternative, citing Pavement and Sonic Youth as early influences. They soon started writing music together and released their debut single in late 2023 and quickly returned with their debut EP, Oxalis, in mid-2024. The EP earnt Best Release and Best Song for ‘Ceiling Fan‘ at the SA Music Awards, with Swapmeet the most nominated act that year.

Heavily championed outside of their home city, the group have scored tastemaker support across community radio, most notably across fbi.radio, RTR FM, 4ZZZ, Edge Hobart, 3RRR, triple j and Unearthed. They have quietly and organically accumulating shy of a million streams across DSPs since, moving out of local pub gigs and into big clubs. Swapmeet have opened for international touring artists across Australia as BENEE, Suki Waterhouse at RISING Festival, The Murder Capital, to stages shared with dust, Floodlights, West Thebarton, The Belair Lip Bombs, Twine, dogworld, Juice Webster, Egoism, doris and more. Their charismatic live show has earnt them not only a quiet confidence in their presence, but also industry buzz across BIGSOUND and SXSW Sydney culminating in the Justin Cosby Music Prize for Best Emerging Artist.

Parissa Tosif and David Ansari returned earlier this year with ‘Set It Off, Set It Right’, described by NME as “emotive and atmospheric,” and boasting “inventive and purposeful production” by triple j, inspired by the steps Parissa and David have both taken in beginning their own families, moving abroad and building their creative careers: Parissa becoming a mother and her admittance and entrance as a practising lawyer and David’s most recent launch of his ebullient solo project Davey and Podcrushed, the podcast where Penn Badgely, Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari explore the heartbreak, anxiety and self-discovery of being a teenager with notable guests including Amy Schumer, Drew Barrymore, Lisa Kudrow, Mark Ronson and more. Following on from their much-celebrated debut release, ‘Young‘ (Certified ARIA Gold), which culminated in their self-titled debut EP, the band then shared their 2017 follow-up EP Fable as well as standalone singles ‘So Settled‘ and ‘Oceans‘ which drew international praise; consecutive entries across triple j‘s Hottest 100 from 2015-17; sold out 40 date tours across the US, UK, Europe and Australia alongside appearances across SXSW, The Great Escape, Reading and Leads Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Groovin’ The Moo, Spilt Milk, Listen Out and more; produce remixes for Troye Sivan with ‘EASE‘ and Matt Maeson on ‘Hallucinogenics‘ alongside a cover of The Shins‘ ‘New Slang‘ for triple j’s Live A Version; and garner a discography boasting half a billion streams globally – all achieved as a fiercely independent outfit.

These New South Whales are a belt with many notches. Their “irresistible” songwriting (Kerrang!) and “old-school-cool energy” (The Line of Best Fit) has earned them international acclaim and a reputation as “one of the best punk bands in Australia” (triple j). Their hit Comedy Central show – touted as “the punk Flight of the Conchords” (NME) and “the best mockumentary since Spinal Tap” (Monster Children) – saw them become the first Australian band to develop their own TV series and licence it to a cable television network. And their podcast What A Great Punk ended its debut year inside Spotify’s top five music podcasts before going on to do a sold-out live run at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2022. While their reputation as all-round entertainers grows, though, their music has long outgrown the comedy label that defined their formative years. After crossing paths in Sydney’s DIY scene, Jamie Timony (vocals), Todd Andrews (guitar), Will Shepherd (bass) and Frank Sweet (drums) joined forces in 2011. Bored with the seriousness of “being in a band”, an absurdist and self-effacing sense of humour has been at the heart of all their endeavours. But what started as a passion for parody soon gave way to a genuinely great band that has followed the same trajectory as the likes of Ceremony and Turnstile, moving from straight-up punk towards a more genre-defying sound.

Born and raised in the Valley, Evangeline grew up in a family of writers and performers. She spent her college years gigging with a band and began releasing songs under the moniker Eva B. Ross, which led to notable collaborations with artists like Big Thief’s Buck Meek and Christian Lee Hutson in addition to early praise everywhere from Paste to Brooklyn Vegan. Quickly, though, Evangeline began to feel like the stage name she’d adopted to make herself more accessible was something she’d outgrown. The moniker began to feel like a costume, and over the past three years she reconnected with the heritage of her given name and crafted the songs that would become Fuzzy.

Fuzzy is a raw, honest, and utterly addictive dose of alt-pop as witty and playful as it is poignant. The songs, produced with Dillon Casey (Weyes Blood), are dreamy and inviting, offering up shimmering sonic mirages that belie their true emotional depths, layering analog and digital elements into disarmingly beautiful soundscapes that manage to feel both modern and timeless all at once.

Shady Nasty subvert expectations. In a world bound by modded cars, immigrant heritage and digital obsessions, Kevin Stathis, Haydn Green and Luca Watson craft a left-field breed of punk that pushes their formal training in jazz and classical music to its most uncustomary extremes. Influences like King Krule, Low Life and Show Me The Body surface not as reference points, but as undercurrents — absorbed and reconfigured into something unmistakably their own. Early EPs Bad Posture and CLUBSMOKE earned praise from The Guardian, NME, Kerrang!, The Line of Best Fit, DIY, Stereogum and VICE, each showcasing immersive world-building that has shaped a consistent voice over the past seven years.

Marked by a distinctive harbour-city twang, TREK — their long-awaited debut album — grapples with the less-than-glamorous hard graft of staying afloat while remaining creatively uncompromised in Sydney. Produced by Kim Moyes of The Presets, the record ventures into more textured, exploratory territory than ever before. Four months in, it’s resonated with longtime fans and newcomers alike, earning acclaim from fbi.radio (Album of the Week), RTR FM (Feature Album), triple j Unearthed (Feature Artist), NME Magazine, Ones to Watch and more. Recently, the group has shared stages with Skeleten, Shame, High Vis, Ho99o9, Sleaford Mods, Gustaf, Amyl and The Sniffers, among others. Through their own headline shows, they’ve cultivated a cult following across Sydney’s underground – including a sold-out run of album shows earlier this April. No matter the venue, no matter the bill, devout adherents clamber to fuel a heaving mosh.

dogworld plays an inimitable blend of post-punk, shoegaze, and indie rock. The four-piece have made waves in Canberra since forming in 2021, with their trademark raw, energetic performance style. Now based in Melbourne, dogworld are quickly becoming an underground Aussie favourite. Their razor-sharp collision of genre, illuminated through their impenetrable power as a live group balances instinct and ceaseless creativity. Forged through trial and error induced jams and rehearsals over time, captured through their debut EP RANGE. Reflective of the title’s open and expansive scope, as of their coherent ability.

Making waves across Rolling Stone, NME, rage, triple j Unearthed, to community radio across fbi, 3RRR, RTR FM, SYN and more, dogworld continue to lead as a workhorse of the local live circuit. From showcasing at SXSW Sydney to supporting Juice Webster, A.Swayze And The Ghosts, Phantastic Ferniture, Armlock, Shady Nasty, dust, Twine, Garage Sale, Swapmeet, Hachiku in just the last nine months. On top of a resume that includes Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, DZ Deathrays to Alex Lahey. Their captivating performance style not only cuts through with crowds, but emphatically on tape as well scoring fans globally in theneedledrop’s Anthony Fantano, KEXP, The Matt Wilkinson Show on Apple Music’s Radio 1 and BBC R6’s Nabihah Iqbal.
