Agung Mango announces MAN ON THE GO EP out Oct 14 + listen to new R&B cut ‘Runaway’
Naarm/Melbourne-based rapper and producer Agung Mango today shares his new single ‘RUNAWAY’, alongside the news of his forthcoming EP MAN ON THE GO set for release on October 14. LISTEN TO RUNAWAY HERE.
Another vivacious and free-flowing offering, ‘RUNAWAY’ marks Agung’s first taste of new music since his 2021 double-single release ‘120 fps / WISEFOOL’. It’s an infectious number that crosses lines of genres, drawing heavily on experimental rap, jazz, alternative R&B and jazz influences to further cement his distinguishable, unmatched creative fold.
Produced by Finbar Stuart, Eleftherios Kordabalos and Nikodimos Paleologoudias, ‘RUNAWAY’ floats and soars through the sonic limits of the underground scene with a future-leaning production that channels the likes of J. Cole and slowthai to move through flows and cadences like no one else. Reflecting on the trials and tribulations of home, family and community, the track is inspired by the pursuit of running away from an old self in the persistent search for the ‘great unknown’.
Of the release, Agung Mango shares, “RUNAWAY tells the story of the development of my younger self. Growing up, I came to understand that life isn’t always rainbows and sunshine, but that the path is both lined with flowers and shadowed by demons. This journey involved me finding comfort in my team and community, as well as discovering the unknown by allowing myself to be receptive to its lessons.”
MAN ON THE GO ushers in a new artistic chapter for Agung Mango, one that is fuelled sonically and personally by a renewed focus on self-reflection and experience. Since his debut in 2017, Agung quickly established himself as one of the most exciting artists to bubble up from Australia’s underground rap scene. More recently, his singles ‘120 fps / WISEFOOL’ and ‘Little Bum’ received rotation support from triple j, triple j Unearthed and FBi Radio, garnering widespread acclaim from NME, Acclaim, Purple Sneakers and more. Agung’s mainstream stature has risen steadily in time, releasing collaborated tracks this year with 1300 on ‘No Talk’ and Lucianblomkamp on ‘3023’. He also has an extended live show resume that boasts appearances at Laneway Festival, Spilt Milk and Golden Plains, support slots for Wiki and Milan Ring and soon, performances at Phoenix Central Park and BIGSOUND.
