Singer-songwriter Airling continues her radiant return today with new single ‘Better When You Groove’, the second from her forthcoming EP Retrieve due March 6 via Pieater. LISTEN HERE + PRE-SAVE EP HERE.

‘Better When You Groove’ serves as her “love/hate letter to music,” and is a crutch point of Airling’s EP, sourcing strength and confidence from unshielded authenticity. Airling’s vocals float effortlessly alongside groovy beats, and she reflects, “It takes so much bravery to put yourself and your creativity into the light and give it to others. Writing this song helped me forget about the things that make me ache. I focused on the way that my hands wanted to move and the love that was flying out of my mouth. Even on the days when I’m conflicted… music is still my everything, music is feeling alive.”

To find and bring something precious back.
To retrieve what was lost.
To go forth and recover.

Late last year Airling, AKA Hannah Shepherd, shared ‘Mona Lisa’, her first new music release in 8 years, to a warm embrace. As Airling, she pours her heart into life and opens it to the world through music. Following the release of her debut album, she found new meaning and direction in nursing, another calling for her empathetic nature. Time away from the industry gave her space to rediscover the joy of making music, without expectation or judgement, and ultimately retrieve her inspiration.

Returning with a collection of sophisticated dream-pop songs that pair crisp RnB production with crystalline vocals, Retrieve explores experiences of loss, recovery, infatuation and power. It was made with long time collaborators Tom Iansek (#1 Dads, Big Scary) and Graham Ritchie (Holy Holy, Scenes) – the same team as her debut EP Love Gracefully and LP Hard to Sleep, Easy to Dream – at her home in Brisbane, 4000 Studios and BellBird Studio, Melbourne. Each moment was played, spoken, sung or programmed by Graham, Tom and Hannah.

Airling’s celebrated debut album Hard to Sleep, Easy to Dream, was a culmination of a lifetime of stories for the artist. Featuring her powerful blend of personal lyricism and soaring vocals, it earned Feature Album on triple j and shone as a vibrant extension of her breakthrough EP, Love Gracefully. Airling has collaborated with Emma Louise, Japanese Wallpaper, Xavier Dunn, LANKS, Christopher Port alongside her enduring partnership with Tom Iansek and his #1 Dads project. Since first winning the triple j Unearthed competition for Splendour In The Grass, Airling has performed alongside Vance Joy, AURORA, Asgeir, James Vincent McMorrow, at Laneway Festival, on triple j’s Like A Version and more.
