‘Howlin’ At The New Moon feat. Mayer Hawthorne’ is out now via Helix Records, buy/stream it here.

ARIA-nominated, Australian artist, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Alice Ivy catapults into the year with a stream of announcements: the first piece of her third studio album, Do What Makes You Happy, arrives with new single ‘Howlin’ At The New Moon feat. Mayer Hawthorne’, alongside her signing to international dance label Helix Records (Snakehips, San Holo). LISTEN + WATCH HERE.

Including Alice Ivy’s own vocals for the first time since her critically acclaimed 2018 debut album I’m Dreaming, ‘Howlin’ At The Moon’ marries the house groove of Channel Tres, charged with a driving bassline and infectious funk like ‘CUFF IT’ with the feature of GRAMMY-nominated soul vocalist Mayer Hawthorne. Mayer’s fierce adlibs give an instant danceability to the release, whose charisma and cadence are unlike anything experienced yet in Alice Ivy’s discography. Indicative of her curatorial craft, produced by Alice Ivy and mixed by multi-GRAMMY Award winning Andrew Dawson (Beyoncé, Pusha T, Childish Gambino) in Arizona, ‘Howlin’ At The New Moon’ marks the next chapter of Alice’s evolution, pieced together throughout her forthcoming third album.

Recorded at Shifted Recording Studios in Brooklyn, of their collaboration Mayer shares, “This song is more explosive than an onion volcano at Benihana! Alice is like a hibachi chef on the boards – we had so much fun making this one!” A fan of Hawthorne’s since high school Alice Ivy reveals, “It’s honestly been a dream of mine to work with him. Mayer and I were both writing in New York last year and Mayer had a last minute cancellation so we jumped in together! Howlin’ came about in just a few hours. I was internally losing my shit as soon as he started putting his vocals down. What you hear on the track are all first takes! Absolutely flawless. Hands down one of my favourite collaborations of all time.”

Alice Ivy, the project of Annika Schmarsel, is the first Australian female producer to join the Helix Records roster. With offices worldwide, the multi-territory label is the independent home for the world’s best new electronic dance music including international electronic artists and producers Snakehips, Jamie Jones, San Holo, Darin and AR/CO. “I’m super excited to start this new chapter with Helix Records after signing with them on my recent trip to LA,” Alice Ivy shares. “The global team at Helix has guided the careers of so many electronic artists that have inspired me. I’ve had the privilege of working from their studios all over the world while writing my new album. It’s great to be joining the family and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”

‘Howlin At The New Moon’ celebrates Alice Ivy’s global signing as the first preview of her next album, Do What Makes You Happy, pieced together over the last year amidst sessions Annika spent across the US. Mayer Hawthorne joins a slew of international and features on the record, as well as some of Australia’s best-loved local artists. Do What Makes You Happy, coming soon, boasts an extension of Alice Ivy’s enhanced production prowess and recent cementation as a highly sought-after songwriter, producer and engineer consistently accumulating an impressive list of accolades since her 2018 debut album I’m Dreaming.

Alice Ivy has amassed over 60 million career streams and has seen her past 10 consecutive singles added to high rotation on Australia’s leading national youth broadcaster, triple j. In 2020 her second studio album Don’t Sleep featured a cavalcade of Australia’s most loved domestic talent including Ecca Vandal, Thelma Plum, Montaigne, Odette and Ngaiire, going on to score her 2 x ARIA, J Award and Australian Music Prize nominations. Alice Ivy’s standalone single ‘Weakness‘, featuring Sycco, was nominated for ‘Best Independent Dance, Electronica or Club Single’ at the 2022 AIR Awards following a steady climb to the #1 most played track on triple j. The release led to two further wins for Alice Ivy that year, taking out ‘Best Producer’ at the Music Victoria Awards and the ‘Studio Production Award’ at the Australian Women In Music Awards.

Alice Ivy’s co-write and production credits also include two tracks on Mallrat’s debut album, ‘Teeth’ and ‘Butterfly Blue’, Georgia Maq on ‘Someone Stranger’ and more recently, global features with Jordana on ‘SYT’, which reached #79 on Spotify’s global Indie Pop chart, and ‘Cool Whip’ by Belot that premiered on BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Clara Amfo. In May 2022, she was invited to perform at the premier UK festival The Great Escape, followed by her first US festival performance at Electric Forest, with appearances across Splendour In The Grass, Groovin’ The Moo, Wine Machine, NYE In The Park, Wanderer, St Kilda Festival, the F1 Australian Grand Prix and more – Corona Capital this November will mark her Mexico City performing debut. Now with the forthcoming record Do What Makes You Happy in her wings, Alice Ivy’s sights are set for the world.
