Ascendant star Ayesha Madon today shares her new offering, ‘Jenga’, ahead of her performance at the opening night of VIVID Sydney Tumbalong Nights with Charley this Friday, May 23rd. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE

Ayesha Madon continues to quantise the dexterities of her craft on ‘Jenga’. Arrestingly able to recontextualise the most menial moments – watching the news to board games – into levitating joy. Co-written with David Evans, Pat Byrne and her longstanding scene-partner, James Majoos, ‘Jenga’s cinematic soundscape captures the childlike glee of best friendship and meaningful sum of all its parts.

“Jenga was one of those songs that revealed itself in about 30 minutes. I was writing it with two of my best friends James Majoos (who some people may know as ‘Darren’) and James’ partner Dave Evans (Oren) at golden hour in their living room. My other close friend Pat (Beso Palma) jumped in to produce it up, along with Dave. I love writing with my friends. It feels healing, personal and often yields my most honest lyricism. This song is about a friendship with someone I hold very dear and so it was only fitting to write this song with other people close to my heart.”

To create the accompanying music video, Ayesha enlisted the expertise of Neil Sharma – director of Netflix’s Heartbreak High, as well as the upcoming season of the acclaimed BINGE series Strife. On directing the new video, Neil shares, “I’ve been making weird art with Ayesha Madon for years, and this clip is no exception. It features a very naked, very chill 70-year-old man with a seriously big…heart. It’s heartfelt, a bit unhinged, and exactly the kind of thing we love putting out into the world.”

Championed by triple j, Elle Magazine (Trailblazer Award), Rolling Stone, Harper’s Bazaar, RUSSH Magazine, Frankie and rage through her recent releases ‘Michelle Obama’, ‘Eulogy’ (reaching the Top 5 Most Played on triple j) and ‘Blame Me’; with profiles amongst Numéro, Wonderland, SBS’ The Feed and Daily Telegraph; gracing covers for 10 Magazine, Cosmopolitan, Time Out, Gaytimes, Girlfriend, Sunday Life – Ayesha’s starpower continues to gleam since her breakout in Netflix’s Emmy Award winning series Heartbreak High.

Madon’s latest single, the empowering ‘Michelle Obama’ saw Ayesha continuously strike fire, galvanising the hype from her SXSW Sydney debut across the Sydney Morning Herald, Broadsheet, Concrete Playground and more. From packing out The Lord Gladstone to recently supporting Alessia Cara, Ayesha continues to aim high. This Friday, she joins Charley for Vivid Sydney’s seminal Tumbalong Nights series.

For the rising creative, music and songwriting has remained at the forefront of her creative output, pushing past the character that’s brought her worldwide recognition. Performance in all its forms has always been intrinsic in Ayesha’s life, learning drums and piano from her adolescence. Today she strives for humility in all aspects of her craft. A deep consideration for authentic storytelling and grit continues to guide her work in perhaps music’s most synthetic genre. This refreshing feat is how Ayesha Madon continues to mesmerise in every format she dabbles – an ability to consistently keep it real backed with a desire to build a career of integrity.
