Adding multiple new pages to 2023’s pop bible, Polachek has now pushed the sonic hallmarks of the original album into even more exaggerated extremes, including deep cut nods to songs that inspired the album: an electric cover of Operating Theatre’s ‘Spring Is Coming With A Strawberry In The Mouth’ (Produced by A.G. Cook), and the emotional drum & bass track ‘Coma’, which is an extended rework of Default Genders’ ‘Pharmacoma (for Ben Deitz)’. Both covers are in the journeying spirit of her most beloved songs like ‘Billions’ and ‘Door’.
Polachek also rearranges one of the album’s fan favourites, ‘I Believe’ (Acoustic Version) co-produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, and joins forces with longtime friend Weyes Blood on a proggy crystalline duet arrangement of Desire’s power ballad, ‘Butterfly Net’. The deluxe edition also includes new mysteriously cinematic songs ‘Meanwhile’ and ‘Gambler’s Prayer’, and the now-classic banger, ‘Dang’, which premiered live as a surrealist powerpoint presentation on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
