PRAISE FOR Cherry Chola

“Unconventional, norm-defying”

PAPER Magazine

“She’s Barbie with a brain; she’s equal parts flirt and flint; she’s armed with either a dead-eyed gaze or a steely resolve, depending on who you ask”

The Guardian

“She also has an innate ability to juxtapose the serious with kittenish tracks that are upbeat and danceable”

VICE

“Bimbo Esoteria is a perfect debut album in that it introduces new sounds to an already beautiful foundation. For cherry chola, the concept of Bimbo Esoterica is perhaps not that complicated at all – but a commitment to what she knows, loves, and does so well: the simple promise of fun and a hell of a party”

Today, Venezuelan-Australian artist Cherry Chola and Mexican producer Chico Sonido announce the release of their next collaborative album El Cuarto Rosa out October 30 via dottidot. The news comes with the release of their latest single – the metallic, hardstyle-esque ‘The Pink Room’. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

Conjuring a sound that traverses reggaeton, Latin-urban rhythms and glittery electronica, Cherry Chola’s sonic instinct is to experiment without restriction. Launching in 2022 with her debut EP exótica, the world of Cherry Chola’s own design works as a hyper-feminine visual universe of glitter, fantasy, chaos and beauty, which expanded with later projects including ✿★⁂, Bimbo Esoterica and found collaborations with 1tbsp (‘Limosina’, ‘Rush – Missing Out On Me’), lila sky (‘Kitty Kawaii’) and more.

From production to music curation, the influence of Chico Sonido is a testament to his expansive vision. Moving between incendiary remixes and sonic explorations, he has helped redefine reggaeton and trap with his collaborations with the likes of Ms Nina and La Goony Chonga, and injected them with a more raw, experimental energy. Through his work founding independent label Calle Fresa that centres on experimental Latin club music and monthly radio show on Dublab, he provides a platform for experimentation and expression within the club scene.

Today’s ‘The Pink Room’ continues both Cherry Chola and Chico Sonido’s immersive soundscapes. A corrosive display of finely-tuned high BPM electronica, ‘The Pink Room’ evokes both an electrifying and emotionally-charged trip that has become meticulous with the sound of Cherry Chola. With Chico Sonido’s club beat and Cherry Chola’s glossy lyrics delivered in both English and Spanish, ‘The Pink Room’ is a confessional, open-ended ode to the value of self-expression in a space entirely familiar.

As the next track to be taken from their forthcoming collaborative album El Cuarto Rosa, ‘The Pink Room’ follows earlier album singles ‘Cristalina’ and ‘Perla’ in a dynamic and playful balance of each artist’s production and writing strengths. Speaking to their approach on ‘The Pink Room’, Cherry Chola says “The Pink Room was inspired both by all the pink rooms I’ve lived in & also the club I used to work at. Both the club & my bedroom feel like places where I’m the most free to dream and be myself, but at the same time both can feel like a cage. The song is about finally stepping out into the unknown, & leaving behind anything that dims your light.”

Chico Sonido furthers this, sharing “This was a very fun track to make, it had a nice flow from the get go. It has a sweet trancey vibe to it reminiscent of peak rave era, it also reminds me of my teenage years having the most fun, Cherry’s vocals are on point, hypnotizing like a siren.”

Due October 30, El Cuarto Rosa is a self-professed collection of diary entries, marking stories of the pursuit of love, finding yourself, finding beauty in duality, all gradually building across the album’s 13 tracks. Taking shape after a dreamstate trip to Baja California, Cherry Chola and Chico Sonido strengthened their skills in two years time with a clear purpose – “to feel inspired to find the beauty in whatever chapter of life you are in – and that you can still radiate light even if you’re sad or going through different emotions.”
