Christopher Port releases new track ‘Baby It’s Not My Will’; Everything In Quotes “DARK” EP out October 20

September 28 2017

Christopher Port today shares his latest track, ‘Baby It’s Not My Will’. With this release, the Melbourne producer delivers a dark and subdued track featuring his customary sounds of vinyl crackle, distorted vocal samples and brooding synth pads that dolefully circle round in repetition. This is the second single taken off his forthcoming Everything in Quotes “Dark” EP set for release on October 20 via a special collaboration between leading Australian independent labels, Future Classic and Pieater.

Listen to ‘Baby It’s Not My Willhere:

Baby It’s Not My Will’ follows the release of ‘Nobody Chose You’, which Pilerats aptly describes as “characteristically quick-firing percussion work with layers of soft synth melodies and vocal samples which all blend seamlessly to create a vibe particularly unique to Australia, but slightly reminiscent of names like Bonobo on an international scale.” Since its release, the track has been added to high rotation across radio stations such as Double J and FBi Radio as well as spins from Huw Stephens and Annie Nightingale across BBC Radio 1, 6 Music and 1Xtra (Simulcast).

Just this week, Christopher Port also shared a new mix via The 405 showcasing early influences for the EP, including Burial, Jacques Greene and Daphni. This mix highlights some of the tracks that I was listening to while working on the DARK EP,” he explains. “Some really gentle atmospheric stuff to start, then it picks up into some more clubby stuff and finishes with a mixture of some of my wider musical influences. There is a really strong sense of emotion in each track. Whether that emotion be loneliness, isolation, anger, apathy…the common theme is that they each contain some form of ‘DARK’ emotion.” Listen here.

When he’s not creating or designing under his own name, Christopher Port keeps very busy playing live drums for Jack Grace, Airling, #1 Dads and Big Scary and producing tracks for artists such as Annie Bass and Buoy.

“A refreshing take on UK Garage, the masterful production layers brooding, melodic synths that crescendo to reveal an infectious and skillfully pitched vocal cut over a garage infused percussion.”

“Ever since we met the exciting producer last year, Melbourne’s Christopher Port has gone on to impress us time and time again…the percussionist and production king has also trademarked his own spin on UK garage under his solo alias, a signature sound perfectly executed with his debut release on esteemed Australian label Future Classic.”

“‘Nobody Chose You’ takes a more subdued approach to garage dance, with heavily affected analogue synths building up a luscious atmosphere, before crackling sampled vocals and grimy percussion add a lo-fi counterpoint. It’s reminiscent of The Cyclist yet possesses its own retro charm that gels nicely with the more modern elements.”

“A lovingly constructed, darkly ambient tune.”

“The track is a slow-burner, and takes some time to get going, but once it does the result is very rewarding. The groove is strong with this one. Reminiscent of artists like Burial and Zomby, Christopher Port manages to make his own name on Future Classic’s impressive roster with his unique take on brooding electronica.”
