Acclaimed alt-pop duo Cults have announced the release of their fifth full-length studio album, To the Ghosts, to be released July 26th on Virgin Music (AU) + Imperial (US). With the album announcement, Cults dropped new single ‘Left My Keys’. LISTEN TO ‘LEFT MY KEYS’ HEREPRE-SAVE ALBUM HERE.

The NY-based duo compromised of multi-instrumentalists Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion, confidently and clearly perfect their vision with the cinematic To the Ghosts. With the second captivating track to be released from the forthcoming album, ‘Left My Keys‘, ethereal guitar wraps around a hypnotic backbeat, while the synths shimmer, and Madeline exhales, “I can feel it happening again.”

“It’s about growing up and feeling like you’re being left behind,” she reveals. “You think you’re missing out on things and not accomplishing enough. You get a little bit older and realise you don’t care anymore. All those things you were worried about don’t matter. You become comfortable where you are. It’s freeing to let go of the feeling that you need to be a part of something.” Brian goes on, “It’s a bright spot. With this being To the Ghosts, ‘Left My Keys’ is dedicated to the ghost of your high school memories with an element of fondness.”

Cults also recently released ‘Crybaby‘, their first new single in two years. Playlisted nationally on Double J and peaking at the #1 most played song on the station earlier this month, local praise for ‘Crybaby‘ boasts of their portrayal for “film like quality” (Music Feeds) and Cults’ ability to retain “their original sound with a little more clarity and directness” (Russh Magazine). Internationally, mxdwn said, “the track keeps in the tradition of Cults cinematic sound, with a breezy, infectious hook,” while Clash called it “dreamy.”

To the Ghosts was meticulously crafted; the earliest ideas dated back to the pandemic when they wrote music on weekdays from 10am-5pm with no deadlines or distractions.  The album was written and recorded in Brian’s apartment; in 2022 they traveled to Los Angeles to collaborate with longtime producer and trusted creative confidant Shane Stoneback, because “nobody can read our minds like he can,” jests Madeline. To the Ghosts was co-produced by Cults and Shane Stoneback, mixed by John Congleton, and mastered by Heba Kadry NYC.

Cults will be playing a stretch of high-profile shows including their own U.S. headline summer tour kicking off August 1st, a stop at Lollapalooza on August 4th, and coveted opening slot supporting Vampire Weekend in the fall. See all tour routing details HERE.
