davey, the solo venture of Vallis Alps‘ David Ansari, today shares the percussive UKG cut ‘SUPRA‘. LISTEN HERE.
Speaking to the release, davey shares, “I name my early demos after cars I’d want to listen to them in, and for some reason the name SUPRA stuck. I’ve been super into 2000s UK garage, sitar music, and those early Ronnie J beats with the distorted 808’s, and all of those flavours found their way into this song. SUPRA toes the line between earnest and gritty – the sample is bouncy but the production slaps – and discovering relationships between opposites is all I’m interested in creatively.”
From his training in jazz piano to the musical education of his formative high school years, in which he developed an omnivorous appetite for all things weird and chaotic, davey is energised by what he calls “this adrenaline element that I crave in everything I listen to.” Inspired by the deconstruction of electronic music, Ansari repurposes the unassuming and the everyday through his compositions – ambitious productions made on toy-like instruments and found-sound samples.
Inspired and motivated by the survey of his own environment, ‘SUPRA‘ is an exercise in raw music, minimal in nature, uptempo through intention. The release represents a return to David Ansari‘s roots – and a step forward at the same time. Stay tuned as the producer continues to unearth more.
