Los Angeles-based artist davey (David Ansari) today reveals his latest single, ‘2 Chant’. LISTEN HERE.

Joining the latest in a run of singles that he’s been dropping each month this year, ‘2 Chant’ follows on from ‘okay o.k. ok’, ‘Why You Wanna’, ‘8 Count’ and ‘Half Up’, garnering support from the likes of triple j, COLORS, Wonderland Magazine, Dork, The Line of Best Fit, Beatportal, Pilerats and Spotify’s Portal, Creamy and Fresh Dance Finds playlists among others.

‘2 Chant’ is another club-primed workout from the multi-instrumentalist and producer who has developed his own unmatched jagged-edged sound with each of his new releases. Pairing crisp percussion with soundscapes characterised by the incorporation of Persian instrumentation, davey’s lively cross-section of dance music both past and present brings to mind the drum-heavy sound of Ahadadream and DJ Plead, with the irresistibility of Leon Vynehalls’ Rojus (Designed To Dance) era.

Speaking to the release, davey shares, “2 Chant is built around two chants – one is a kids soccer chant, asking the sports gods to grant them a win; and the other is a chanted Farsi sample that warns “Do not be proud of what you eat / He eats a hundred bites of which he is a slave”. It’s a weird mix, but I see myself in both of them; my material self that desires material success, and my spiritual self that understands that desire only leads to unhappiness. The challenge of bringing together opposite ideas into one cohesive piece of music is what compels me most as an artist; with 2 Chant, it inspired me to weave together so many of my musical influences – UKG, bluegrass, dubstep, Middle Eastern string music, sports cheers mixed with traditional Persian chanting, analog drum machines, etc.”

David Ansari rose to prominence in 2015 as one half of Vallis Alps, the trans-Atlantic electronic music duo who shot through the music sphere with their independently released, self-titled debut EP, alongside their return with 2023 debut album Cleave. Through his career with the band, Ansari relocated to Sydney, Australia with two EPs which landed him on stages at heralded national festivals Splendour In The Grass, Groovin The Moo, Spilt Milk, and more, as well as sold-out headline tours and festival performances in the US, UK, and Europe including SXSW, The Great Escape, Reading & Leeds and more.

When the band took a break in 2017, Ansari turned his focus on his ebullient solo project titled davey which took a wide turn away from the ethereal indie-pop he was known for, for darker, abrasive sounds that explore industrial house, percussive UKG, deconstructed rap and metastasized, blown-out, big room electronic music. As davey, he garnered worldwide acclaim landing him in placements across Billboard, Dublab, NME, American Songwriter, triple j, Red Bull Music, and more, recognizing his growth and range as a producer.

More recently, David co-created the podcast series, Podcrushed with Penn Badgley (YOU, Gossip Girl), Nava Kavelin, and Sophie Rutstein. There he works as the Lead Producer, delivering two seasons of the series with over 70+ episodes including Ariana Grande, Matthew McConaughey, Jenna Ortega, Mark Ronson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Conan O’Brien, Ayo Edebiri, Seth Meyers, Ziwe, BJ Novak, Ramy Youssef, Kelly Clarkson, and a tonne more.
