Volume Festival Sydney
July 6 – Future tilt at Art Gallery of NSW – Eora/Sydney
Read more about it HERE.

This July, Eora/Sydney-based avant-garde techno ensemble DeepFaith will grace the Art Gallery of NSW’s prestigious new music series, Volume Festival Sydney, alongside luminaries such as André 3000, Kim Gordon, Genesis Owusu, and Tkay Maidza.

For the festival’s grand opening weekend, DeepFaith will transform the historic underground Tank—an extraordinary WWII oil tank repurposed into a mesmerising art and performance space—into an auditory and visual feast as part of the festival’s Future tilt program. Their performance promises an enthralling convergence of past, present, and future through a kaleidoscope of layered sonics and projections, holograms, and live AI manipulation in a techno-rock opera. This unique, complimentary event will take place on Saturday, 6 July, from 1–4 pm. DeepFaith will be accompanied by Kombumerri artist salllvage and Ballina-based electronic experimentalist Lydian Dunbar.

In conjunction with this announcement, DeepFaith unveil their latest video for ‘SUNSHOWERS666’, a standout track from their recent EP GLORIA IN TUMULTU, VERITAS IN FRAGORE PROPHETUS INSANUM. Crafted entirely by the band, the video intertwines rapid cuts of life on the road, performances, and rehearsals, across their recent tour dates with Kirin J Callinan in Berlin (Berghain), Manchester, London, and Tokyo, Genesis Owusu in North America and Dispossessed at the MCA’s Artbar this last week.

The message is simple: “Surveillance state. American gas stations. Price of living crisis. Captain Planet. A bunch of water-cooled rainbow gaming PCs melting plutonium churning crypto into liquid head. Melting. Dumpster diving. A spiritual guru. Silver skin. Truth and lies. Getting strong. Ride the pony hide the phoney. Vol cap. Mo cap. The most unreal engine. Your friendly neighbourhood techno band DEEPFAITH. Courtesy of Boz, Danial, Talye and lil22.”

Translating their digital mystique into a visceral, punk-infused spectacle of surrealistic camp and sinuous rhythms, GLORIA IN TUMULTU, VERITAS IN FRAGORE PROPHETUS INSANUM epitomises DeepFaith’s audacious sonic journey. Imagine an auditory hand reaching through your screen, disrupting the monotony of doom scrolling with a blend of the elegance of Air and the unpredictable brilliance of the KLF. Employing AI-generated voices, the EP challenges conventional forms, conjuring a spectral ensemble of collaborators within a fantastical, almost diabolical soundscape.

Experience DeepFaith’s transcendental techno odyssey live at Volume Festival Sydney this July.

DeepFaith is the hybrid art & music project helmed by Australians DANIAL (drummer for Midnight Juggernauts, founder of Siberia Records, and collaborator with the likes of Kirin J Callinan, Alex Cameron, Solange, and Kelsey Lu) and Byron Spencer (the acclaimed multidisciplinary artist who’s helmed projects for Troye Sivan, Lady Gaga, and Dev Hynes). DeepFaith have already begun to build out their practice of transcendental techno utopianism: They’ve brought a “Crypto Digital Opera” to the Sydney Opera House, performed for Chanel, put on sold-out Crypt shows, collaborated with Snoop Dogg, and have shared stages with Jamie xx and The Avalanches. Combining live avatars, motion capture, and various mixed media works with an equally diverse cast of collaborators, DeepFaith exist between the realms of DIY electronic and punk.
