Rising Stockholm-based vocalist and producer DJ Suzy arrives today with her debut album, Kira Krash, alongside a brand new video for her new single ‘dream’. Today, she also shares a run of US headline dates for March 2027, with all details and dates below. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE + BUY TIX HERE.
A trained choral singer and composer, DJ Suzy channels that virtuosity into a sound that’s meticulously layered and experimental, which has driven to master the vocabulary and technicality of producing music. Named after her antagonist alter-ego, Kira Krash tells visceral and immersive stories. Inviting listeners into a dollhouse fantasy that’s equal parts dreamy and destructive, Kira Krash is built on a foundation of bubbling synths, G-funk basslines, alt-pop, R&B and breakbeat, representing a myriad of sides to Suzy’s craft.
“Since 2019, I’ve had the idea of creating an alter ego in the form of a doll. Over time, my relationship with her has grown as I’ve continued to explore her world, touching on themes of shame, unrequited love, neglected feelings, addiction, escapism, sorrow, and grief” DJ Suzy shares. “Through this album, we get to experience Kira’s world, which is a part of myself. It’s about the fear and the courage it takes to be true to yourself.”
Showing duality through her ‘shadow self’, Kira Krash represents Suzy’s hidden side, as she plays with the light and dark inherent within us all. From the all-consuming nature of love in ‘sw33t’ – which saw a remixfrom Nourished By Time – to the shifting ‘why did i say i loved you’ and jazz-inflected ‘nothing i can do’, Suzy’s songwriting never steers away from difficult truths. Video game nostalgia lies at the heart of KiraKrash, with layered harmonies and cinematic references weaving through ‘scarecrow’, Super Mario Galaxynods in ‘end scene’ and ‘bowser loves peach’, and the charming ‘dream’, which chronicles Suzy’s confrontation with a version of herself she can no longer run from.
The accompanying music video for ‘dream’ also arrives today, directed by Nemo Hinders and filmed in Gothenburg, Sweden using the set design from a theatrical production based on George Orwell’s novel 1984. This gives the video a surreal, unsettling atmosphere, almost like being caught in a nightmare. “The song itself is about dreaming of a boy and the future we could have had together. But that’s really just the surface of it, and I didn’t want the video to simply portray me searching for him in my dreams” reveals DJ Suzy. “I think what I’m really battling in my dreams is myself, my fears of letting go, and perhaps a desire to flea reality. After all, that’s what Kira symbolizes”.
Resonating with longtime fans and new listeners alike, DJ Suzy pairs a fluency in pop songcraft with inventive production steeped in Y2K nostalgia and the intrigue of dial-up internet culture. Following her acclaimed ‘Digital girl – funk remix’, which has organically surpassed +2 million streams, DJ Suzy has since accumulated worldwide DSP editorial and cover placement across the campaign and global support from Dazed, Clash, NME, The Line of Best Fit, Indie Hourzz, Ones To Watch, Rolling Stone and Brodie Sessions among others for her genreless, chameleonic quality.
