Hot off the announcement of their upcoming support for Armlock in late August, Naarm / Melbourne outfit dogworld have shared the latest peek of their upcoming project in the skittish new single ‘DASHCAM’. Their debut EP RANGE is due later this month on August 9  with live launch taking place at Yah Yah’s Fitzroy that evening. LISTEN + WATCH ‘DASHCAM’ HERE + PRE-SAVE EP HERE + BUY TIX HERE.

Overwrought and frenetic in contrast to the breeze-flecked ‘FISHSACK’ and direct ‘777’, ‘DASHCAM’ sees dogworld display their clearest post-punk influences. Taking notes from Shady Nasty to King Krule and black midi, the single voiced by guitarist Max Sturm, appears fast and furious from its first strike. Drifting lyrics seemingly speak to the meditative practice of highway driving – chrome boxes, lined direction, pavement meeting sunlight. ‘DASHCAM’ is a song of focus, a slow-motion observation from the driver’s seat.

Of the release, Sturm explains “‘DASHCAM’ was written on the spot through an improvised guitar riff that developed into the main verse sections. An hour’s jam quickly brought out an aggressive chorus, frantically moving between angular chord changes. Two shoegaze-style bridges were further developed and explore more dynamic and austere sounds. The lyrics centre around experiences of relentless panic whilst driving, devolving into visions of disaster. The song reached its true form in the studio, capturing buzzing noise from guitar feedback and frenzied shouting fed through electronic music samplers, and reworked into a traffic-like sonic palette.”
