Ecca Vandal epitomises creative multiplicity — a rebellious and tenacious voice, with an explosive shot of adrenaline. This new era sees Ecca tightening the screws with sharper hooks, starker storytelling, and anthems for yelling into the night. “You look better when I don’t look back” she proclaims on the uncompromising ‘CRUISING TO SELF SOOTHE’, as she continues trudging a renegade path. Vandal’s signature blend of outspoken new wave and coarse punk, with an overt display of influences boils into a hybrid sound entirely of her own, marking nods to Turnstile, Fugazi and Nirvana in particular.
The third single release following the valiant ‘BLEED BUT NEVER DIE‘ and ‘THEN THERE’S ONE‘ after “taking a bit of a breather for my heart, health and art,” Ecca explains, “This song is about cultivating your inner strength when navigating life on your own, even when it feels a bit isolating. It’s about that pivotal moment when you recognise that you’re stronger without the people who were weighing you down, and there’s a real sense of empowerment in that for me. It captures the feeling of breaking free and moving forward, no matter the challenges that come. Even when others are waiting for you to fall, you’re still rising — stronger than ever.”
A musical auteur, Ecca Vandal embodies the twin-soul of punk rock and hip-hop, with an electronic heart pumping big, energetic and nostalgic beats. Spending her formative years as a jazz musician, her passion for improvisation led her to fall in love with the DIY abandon of punk and foster an ability to effortlessly balance soulful melodies with raw, unapologetic power. Neither her sound nor persona are fixed for easy consumption. Political, rebellious and tenacious, with a voice demanding to be heard — Ecca Vandal is magnetism personified and exactly what we need right now.
In the few months since entering her latest intrepid era, Ecca’s online teasers continue to skyrocket, generating buzz and her own record breaking numbers across social media. A teaser for ‘CRUISING TO SELF SOOTHE’ has already surpassed 2 million views, catching the attention of A-listers and setting the tone for an explosive 2025. Looking forward, Ecca Vandal is touring with the iconic Limp Bizkit across their European arena tour in March and April.
South-African born with Tamil heritage and an upbringing in Naarm/Melbourne, Ecca strutted her way onto the musical landscape in 2016 in traditional punk-style with an edgy disposition and something to say. Ecca would go on to soar with her self-titled debut album, which drew universal acclaim — Rolling Stone delivered 4.5 stars for the “vibrant, dazzling collection of tunes,” while NME lauded its “absolutely banging, genre-bending anthems.” Ecca Vandal brings unrelenting energy to the stage with a history of touring alongside global heavyweights such as Queens of the Stone Age, Incubus, Idles and The Prodigy, as well as appearances at a host of iconic festivals including Reading and Leads (UK), AfroPunk (FR), Download (UK), Splendour In The Grass (AU), Falls Festival (AU) and Laneway (AU). New music in 2024 brought with it a wave of online hype and sold out curated live experiences, setting the tone for a transformative new era for the Vandal.
