Emo-Folk Duo hey, nothing Share New Single “Maine” Following Last Week’s Viral Track “The Sink”
Today, hey, nothing — the Athens-via-Atlanta duo of 19-year-old best friends Tyler Mary and Harlow Phillips, who’ve built a cult online following through their roughly hewn and lyrically deft emo-folk — are sharing another new single titled “Maine.” The duo’s second single in two weeks, today’s release follows hey, nothing’s viral and largest launch to date, “The Sink.” Listen to “Maine” + “The Sink” here.
“Maine” also comes alongside a live performance video of both singles, filmed outside of the Athens-based studio The Zoo, where hey, nothing records all of their music. Though the location of the video holds more weight than what’s on the surface — “Maine” tells a poignant tale about leaving where your roots have always grown. Sonically saccharine yet still steeped in hey, nothing’s punk-folk sound, “Maine” is both vulnerable and gratifying.

Of “Maine,” hey, nothing said: “‘Maine’ is about the realization that you aren’t obligated to stay in the place you grew up. It’s an apology to those hurt by your distance but an acknowledgment of the pain you experience without it. It’s a brutally honest cry that comes from a rough time in our lives that made us realize we will never see ‘home’ the same again.”
Whether in melodic counterpoint or ragged harmonies, hey, nothing’s vocal interplay is immediately charming. While simply teasing “The Sink” in a short video a few weeks ago, it drove over three million views across TikTok, grew their Instagram following by the thousands, and has doubled their Spotify streams week-over-week. hey, nothing’s rise has been swift, but the teenage duo’s emo-folk sound stands its ground, ringing to a tune akin with Violent Femmes, Modern Baseball, or The Front Bottoms.
hey, nothing are also about to go on to tour supporting BoyWithUke throughout April, just before they headline NYC and Philadelphia in May. See all of the tour dates below and find more info + tickets here.
