Acclaimed songwriter and vocalist Eves Karydas today shares new single ‘Hair Down’ from her upcoming album Burnt Tapes independently out July 5. LISTEN + WATCH HERE + PRE-ORDER LP + BUY TOUR TIX HERE.

Considered the most true-to-form display of her artistry, ‘Hair Down’ represents the real Eves Karydas. With a collage of sampled strings, rusty percussion, and vapourescent production, the idiom is recalibrated under the feminine gaze. A true sense of ease in desire comes from the faith, confidence, and security nurtured by a lover, not from the societal belief that appearance and constant grooming are essential in relationships and for women.

“Metaphorically this idea of letting your hair down means you have no reservations being your whole self,” Eves explains. “In a way there is no purer representation of me being exactly that than on this song as I am the sole songwriter and a co-producer. I pulled a lot of the demo together from samples I’d found on the internet, most of which ended up on the final master recording. Chris Zane (producer) did an incredible job making sense of my work and creating something really magnetic and mood driven. There’s this idea that sex appeal is inherently aloof and mysterious, but I know I speak for a lot of women when I say attraction comes from being with someone who cultivates a feeling of complete trust and safety.”

Re-emerging earlier this year with a renewed sense of autonomy and purpose, Burnt Tapes’ string of singles ‘Sunday Drive’, ‘Girlboss’, and ‘Take 2’, have seen Eves Karydas praised as an artist, presenting her “most authentic” image (triple j). Reconstructing indignant burnout and frustration in the face of her perceived success, Burnt Tapes is a transformative release for the artist, “an ode to reclaiming my sound, image, and narrative,” and a stoic milestone in the face of external commercial pressures and constraints. Now Karydas stands as a holistic, multi-disciplinary creative, with Burnt Tapes a vibrant release empowered with her own creative direction.

A courageous departure from the Eves Karydas we’ve come to know as her career has flourished, the forthcoming album is rich with unwavering self-belief and resilience, alongside a powerful embrace of tactile design and analogue recording methods. Prioritising expression, creation and promotion in its purest forms, at the hands of Eves herself – staunchly seizing control of her virtuosity and career – Burnt Tapes paints the process that journey through tribute to Eves Karydas’ unwavering self-belief and resilience. Experience Burnt Tapes live this July, with tickets on sale now for her East Coast album tour. Boasting an all-new performance needed to be seen and heard.

Singer/songwriter Eves Karydas commands attention with platinum hits like ‘Further Than The Planes Fly’, and ‘Complicated’, the most added track to Australian commercial radio, reaching #22 on triple j’s Hottest 100. With sold-out tours, billing on every major Australian festival, and supporting the likes of Dua Lipa and George Ezra, her tracks have not only ingrained themselves in the fabric of the Australian cultural scene but have also found esteemed placements on streaming platforms around the world, as well as BBC Radio 1’s prestigious Best New Pop lineup. In 2024, Eves became fully self-managed and independent, marking a significant shift in her approach. Her journey tells a powerful story of navigating a male-dominated industry while reclaiming her sound, image, and power after experiencing burnout from the industry’s tired “sex-sells” strategy. Today Eves sheds the past and embraces a fresh perspective. By no means a victim of circumstance, this new album is set to reveal a master of their instrument, the reward of choice and courageous freedom, and merit in embracing a guerrilla ethos. With musicality and conviction unlike before, Burnt Tapes shares an all new purview to her deepest motivations – songwriting and performance. An aptitude Eves Karydas is already recognised for, be it ARIA-platinum certification to over 60 million career streams (and counting).
