Trinidad-born, Eora-based artist Gold Fang has today announced the release of his debut mixtape, SMOOVE KILLA, out via NLV Records this March 24. With the news, the burgeoning vocalist has shared his latest visual cut for the single ‘Mi Nuh Like‘. LISTEN + WATCH HERE + PRE-SAVE SMOOVE KILLA HERE.

With SMOOVE KILLA, Gold Fang‘s artistry soars to new heights, with nods to his Caribbean culture and heritage pulled into every corner of his expansive musical palette, traversing dancehall, reggae, drill, RNB, soul and back with casual aplomb. Across the mixtape Fang debut’s a hard-souled new chapter: high in energy, distinct in production and infectious in rhyme.

Speaking to the mixtape’s origin, Gold Fang explains “What is the definition? SMOOVE KILLA is the both sides of Gold Fang. SMOOVE is the reasonable youth who is open to anything… loving… a grandma’s boy. Whereas KILLA, I think the name speaks for itself. When it comes to the more grungy side of Gold Fang. The more authentic side where watered words and hidden reality ain’t a thing… SMOOVE KILLA is the best way that I myself as an artist can define who I am. As for the songs on this tape, these songs were handpicked from different sides of Gold Fang all under the same banner just different feelings. Again the songs and the tape go hand in hand as it shows both sides. I wanted to show my vulnerability but still… don’t play!!”

‘Mi Nuh Like’, arrives today with a like-minded visual that embodies that energy and quantifiable artistic quality palpably felt across SMOOVE KILLA as it is experienced live. Whether it be his sold-out debut headline show to a 100-capacity room, to crowds at Field Day, or supporting Lil Nas X, Sister Nancy, Novelist (and soon Genesis Owusu), Gold Fang‘s magnetism leaves a mark. His vocabulary and his unmistakable voice alone propels Gold Fang far in front of the local space, most notably heralded by triple j as “versatile yet unmistakable, able to seamlessly imbue any genre that he touches with a sonic fingerprint that is as distinctive as it is powerful. It is his undeniable presence and charisma that has caused Gold Fang to be earmarked as one-to-watch.”

Standing tall amongst dancehall and reggae counterparts including Vybz Kartel, WizKid, and Popcaan, Gold Fang wraps a masterful balance of cultural authenticity amongst his playful exterior. His steady stream of releases including the sultry summer single ‘Drop‘ featuring Naarm-based, Egyptian-Australian vocalist CD, the free-flowing ‘Big Natty Rasta‘, ‘Wet‘, ‘Make It Snow ft. Dante Knows‘ as well as his collaboration with rapper Big Skeez on their anthemic single ‘Where Yuh From‘, each release thrust Fang‘s ascendent further since his 2021 debut single ‘Light It‘ that landed him triple j Unearthed’s Feature Artist.

Motivated to fly the flag for the Caribbean sound in Australia, Gold Fang cements his place at the forefront of the thriving Afro-Caribbean diaspora. Coupled with a blockbuster appearance at BIGSOUND, praise across the ABC, his semi-finalist positioning in Acclaim Magazine’s All-Stars as well as one of Red Bull’s 2022’s Australian Rappers to Watch with an explosive 64 Bars freestyle; a commission for the McDonald’s U.S. biennial global conference ‘Matter To Me’ alongside sync placements with Champion and Adidas, tastemaker praise from FBi Radio, MTV, Sniffers, Purple Sneakers, Take Flight, over 5.5 million streams across DSPs and more – it doesn’t matter which lane, Gold Fang continues to win.
