Highlighting not only FBi Radio’s consistent periphery of exciting and experimental programming but also its place as a hub that has nurtured countless industry professionals and arts leaders today, FBi Turns 20 reflects the independent broadcaster’s growth and programming over two decades of operation and into its future. With all participating artists donating their performance fees for the fundraiser, the event marks the long-awaited return of acts Slim Set and Hoops, the collaborative project of Anna Lunoe, Bad Ezzy and Nina Las Vegas.

Slim Set, the boys from P.A.R.R.A. who bridge eshay grime with mutant electro set 2018 ablaze with their debut Feed EP, including hits in ‘Cooked’ and ‘Lazy’ that would go on to score the #1 and #2 most played songs on FBi Radio that year and 3 FBi SMAC Award nominations. The project of Uncle Kal and DJ Atro would go on to host the shenanigan-heavy Sunset with Slim Set, acclaimed for their consistent showcase of Eora / Sydney’s hip hop frontier amongst their own including stages shared with The Streets, AJ Tracey, Flohio and collaborations with Shady Nasty on ‘Warrang’ and Imbi on ‘Heatsink’.

Anna Lunoe, Bad Ezzy and Nina Las Vegas’ friendship was forged over volunteer shifts at FBi Radio, accidentally founding Hoops in the infancy of their now internationally-recognised careers in 2007. From learning the radio ropes hosting and producing across the station’s flagship Sunset program, each Hoops member are just some of the established community leaders who share time at FBi in their resumes. Their accolades include hosting House Party on triple j, launching Apple Music’s Beats1 platform with HYPERHOUSE, founding NLV Records (Ninajirachi, Gold Fang, Big Skeez) as well as all being in-demand DJs and producers to this day.

Integral to Eora / Sydney’s creative fabric, over two decades FBi Radio has had a simple mission to champion and support local talent in all its forms, evolving in step with the industries, collectives and city they represent. While the music and voices in the studio have inevitably changed and developed over time, the principle of giving and receiving from community has strongly persisted over the station’s twenty years. Consistently pushing forward thanks to its army of charged and passionate volunteers, FBi Radio’s revolving door continues to usher a stream of leading innovators, curators, story-tellers, policymakers and changers, that go on to shape the city it serves – one they only hope will further thrive throughout its next twenty years.

Celebrate the station’s milestone birthday on Saturday December 9 at the multi-stage fundraiser and block party across The Red Rattler, Marrickville Bowlo and Faversham Street Stage – flagged by Resident Advisor, Music Feeds, Purple Sneakers, Radio Info and Radio Today as a must-see event.
