my body’s my true north LP is out now, buy/stream it here.

Naarm/Melbourne-based vocalist, producer, songwriter and bassist FELIVAND has unveiled her new album today, my body’s my true north. With the release comes the announcement of a string of headline dates from Sep-Oct to celebrate the album’s release LISTEN HERE + BUY TICKETS HERE.

There’s a moment in therapy when you realise your body has been keeping score all along. Cataloging every experience, every memory,  every truth your mind tried to rationalise away. For FELIVAND, that revelation became the compass for herself personally and her latest creative undertaking, where trading thinking for feeling fostered therapeutic and at times, difficult breakthroughs.

The process was as therapeutic as it was creative, an approach that mirrors the album’s central concept, intuition as an unwavering internal compass, pointing toward internal truths that logic can’t always explain. “When I listen to what my body’s telling me, it feels like an unwavering light at the end of the tunnel, an orienting point. Something fixed like a ‘true north’, while everything else around it spins. When I follow thought, i’m in with everything that’s spinning”, the artist describes.

my body’s my true north finds FELIVAND at her most tender and expansive. She has always shown up vulnerably and expressive musically, but never with the raw conviction and actualisation that defines this new work. Where her debut Ties felt carefully constructed, my body’s my true north is deliberately unbound, shaped by a simple but radical creative principle: trust feeling over thought, always.

Working alongside boundary-pushing collaborators including McClenney (Khalid, H.E.R), Austin Brown (Doechii, UMI), Billy Lemos (SZA, Tinashe), and Taydex (Jon Batiste, Princess Nokia) to list a few, the resulting my body’s my true north feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. It’s music that’s cathartic and suave, bold and expressive in its vulnerability. Weaving together elements of Alternative R&B, alt-pop, and the raw authenticity of Indie Soul, it’s the sound of an artist who’s learned to trust her most reliable compass: the wisdom her body has been whispering all along.

Vocally, this is FELIVAND at her most adventurous, exploring higher ranges while giving herself permission to be messy, to belt into microphones, to keep lyrics that made perfect sense to her even if they’d puzzle others. “A big goal of the project was to uncensor any feelings and lyrics and get all of the yucky shit and whiney feelings sitting in my body out onto the canvas,” she admits.

FELIVAND will bring her highly anticipated sophomore album to life across three headline shows this September and October at Eora/Sydney’s The Vanguard, Naarm/Melbourne’s Bergy Bandroom, and Meanjin/Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge. Promising an intimate experience that captures the certainty and depth that defines her most liberated artistic statement yet.
