Richmond’s Fly Anakin kicks off the new year with the announcement of his Skinemaxxx EP, the first instalment of a two-part project in collaboration with Mutant Academy producer Foisey, out April 5 via Lex Records. Accompanying the announcement, Fly Anakin shares the first EP’s lead single ‘Blicky Bop‘. LISTEN + WATCH HERE + PRE-ORDER SKINEMAXXX (SIDE A) HERE.
With Foisey‘s astral production punctuating a quintessentially technical and melodic Anakin verse, ‘Blicky Bop‘ challenges the Richmond rapper to embrace a bolder, eclectic production style that he’s taking into future releases and has become a fan-favourite at Anakin‘s live shows over the last year.
The EP announcement and ‘Blicky Bop‘ follow an eventful 2022 which saw Fly Anakin release his debut studio album Frank, which includes the stand-out tracks ‘Black Be The Source‘, ‘Ghost‘ and ‘Sean Price‘, and lead Pitchfork to describe him as “the single best pure rapper in the scene.”
Frank planted Anakin‘s flag in the contemporary music scene as not only a technically-gifted rapper, but as a fully-realized artist and songwriter and received praise from Rolling Stone, The FADER, Complex, NPR, and landed on Best Album of the Year lists at Bandcamp, HipHopDX, OkayPlayer, Uproxx and more. Fly Anakin also enlisted Madlib for a remix of the Frank track ‘No Dough‘, which was included on Lex Records‘ LEX-XX 20th Anniversary remix series.
