GAUCI share ‘Written On My Face’ + touring the UK w/ Armlock, The Great Escape
PRAISE FOR GAUCI
“They can master any domain. BRAT is perfectly balanced pop punk - heart on your sleeve lyrics & guitars laced with unashamed emotion. But, done the GAUCI way, of course - a bitcrushed electronic breakdown at the bridge proving the synths aren’t totally finished”
“Top-line hooks that would tear up any indie sleaze playlist. The seven tracks exist in a nostalgic space that recalls visiting your teenage bedroom as an adult, watching posters as they peel from the walls. Every second on the album is a musical firework and the tight collection of tracks shouts or an immediate playback as soon as it ends”
“Not since Lorde’s debut has coming of age sounded this effervescent. Every track from this Sydney trio’s new mixtape could soundtrack the closing credits of a teen film, bulging with the delight and dolour of burgeoning adulthood”
“Angsty aughts alternative wrapped in a glitzy and grungy package. It’s The Killers’ Hot Fuss given the 2020 treatment”
“An even-handed masterclass in pop, a potent blend of polish and heart”
“Balances radiant pop with foreboding alt-rock”
“A grittiness and roughness that doesn't dim the GAUCI signature shimmer”

Alternative indie duo GAUCI uncover their latest offering ‘Written On My Face’, ahead of their debut at The Great Escape Festival and alongside a stream of dates supporting Armlock across the UK. LISTEN HERE.
Sustaining GAUCI’s vein of introverted anthems, ‘Written On My Face’ redefines the credence of its title. Citing doom scroll inertia and bed rot side by side with gleaming synths and drum machine – equalled to Momma or This Is Lorelei in their juxtaposition of less than impressed lyrics – ‘Written On My Face’ puts in-action on blast. Both insular and omnipresent as its title suggests, GAUCI beckons self-worth to delusion.
The collaboration of Antonia Gauci and Felix Lush, GAUCI has risen as a bright spark from the Sydney / Eora underground. Securing a new stride with their mixtape debut Growing Pains, supported critically by The Guardian, The Big Issue, Bandcamp, Atwood Magazine, triple j Unearthed alongside enduring champions fbi.radio (Album of the Week), RUSSH Magazine and more, the release signalled their claim for indie-pop innovator status.
On the release, Antonia shares “This track is about feeling shit and being angry with yourself, trying out all the options to make yourself feel better and still feeling just so UGH. Kinda like a self reflection on the two sides of my Gemini personality and being like – ok c’mon we can do this and get through this.”
As hands-on as ever, today GAUCI burrow deep into the indie rock mine, littering their next phase with noise pop, grunge and nu-metal. Inspired by the canon of Sky Ferreira to Yuck, The X Files and Drain Gang, their wont is celebrated in how GAUCI express these footnotes of influence into a chemistry of pure and affable songwriting. Uniquely able to twist those corny “everything is embarrassing” sentiments into hooks with style and edge, peel back the flair and there lies their greatest reward – a stubborn attention to simplicity cultivating music that stays with you.
Following a run of shows across Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and London supporting Armlock, GAUCI’s UK tour continues this weekend at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival, assisted by the Australian Government through Music Australia and the NSW Government through Sound NSW. Highly regarded for their seasoned live experience, see all showcasing details BELOW.
Crusaders of the underground, GAUCI have stepped into the spotlight. The creative partnership of acclaimed mix engineer Antonia Gauci (Troye Sivan, 700 Feel, daine, GRAMMY nominated for Kesha) and multi-hyphenate mastermind Felix Lush (Brooke Candy), has transformed with their esteemed debut mixtape Growing Pains, as GAUCI they boast a diverse sonic palette. Reflective of their wide pool of influences and backed by a wealth of performance and production expertise, GAUCI deliver polish with grit in their music. With creative direction firmly by their own hands and the freedom to authentically express their range, the result is a rich, dynamic display of their artistic vision, abundant with aplomb.
From buzz inducing showcases at BIGSOUND to later turning crowds away from the overcapacity Phoenix Central Park for SXSW Sydney; national triple j playlisting for ‘Irritating’; recurrent placement as the most playlisted independent act across DSPs on release and Top 10 AMRAP Charting placement; co-signs from the Guardian praising their balance of “the twinned forces of love and loathing” and “the turn-of-the-millennium romcom” to remixes for dust, Vallis Alps and DZ Deathrays; alongside continued tastemaker support locally and abroad from FBi Radio, Bandcamp, PAPER, Atwood Magazine, Frankie, through to performances at Yours & Owls, Dark Mofo, supporting 1300, Hatchie, G Flip, Parcels, Vallis Alps, Beach Fossils, Automatic and more – GAUCI consistently win fans over.
