Hailing from East London, Ghetts combines razor-sharp, crystal-clear rhymes with smart humour and creative, intelligent wordplay. In 2005, Ghetts released his debut mixtape, 2000 & Life, and since then he’s gone on to release 5 further mixtapes, 4 studio albums, various blazing freestyles, and continues to improve with each new offering. Ghetts’ 2021 album, Conflict Of Interest, marked a paradigm shift not only for his career but for UK rap, receiving near-universal acclaim by reaching #2 on the Official UK Albums Chart and earning Brit Award, Mercury Music Prize and NME Award nominations, as well as DJ Mag Best Of British and MOBO Award wins.
Arriving with his latest album in May this year, On Purpose, With Purpose, Ghetts continues his unstoppable rise, hailed as the “embodiment of grime” by The Guardian and a “rap legend” by Complex. The album itself finds Ghetts expanding his sonic palette by reaching out beyond rap and incorporating elements of wider musical influences such as soul, R&B, gospel, Afrobeats and amapiano as well as several guest features, including Sampha, Kano, Wretch 32, Skrapz, Unknown T, Lancey Foux, Pip Millett, Tiggs da Author and Moonchild Sanelly. Sounding sharper, more unflinchingly honest and boldly confident and than ever before, the album led to Ghetts’ second successive appearance on the Mercury Music Prize shortlist having already picked up the inaugural MOBO Pioneer Award earlier in the year alongside a masterclass Glastonbury performance.
