Haviah Mighty Reconnects with TOBi for “Good On My Own Tonight”

March 11 2021

Closing in on one year since the start of this global pandemic, in between all the isolation and space, Haviah Mighty’s new single, “Good On My Own Tonight feat. TOBi” arrives in divine timing. It’s subtle in its power, which is fully unleashed when the trap beat drops in the outtro and reflected in her sharp as knives verses. Learn more about Haviah’s inspiration behind the song via Consequence’s Origins which premiered earlier today.

About the song, Haviah says, “’Good On My Own Tonight’ focuses on the moment of clarity when you realize that you’re better off on your own. Whether it’s a relationship that hasn’t been working, or a friendship that has made you feel weird for a while, this song speaks to those internal thoughts around finally putting yourself first.” TOBi adds, “For me, sometimes space and distance from a situation is needed to gain clarity. To look at things objectively. I remember being in a relationship and I didn’t even know it was toxic for us both until we took time apart and looked from the outside in. That helped me be better in my next relationship and have better insight into what I actually wanted.”

“Good On My Own Tonight” marks a reunion between fellow Toronto standouts, TOBi and Haviah, as she previously collaborated with TOBi on standout song “24,” garnering praise from the likes of HypeBeast, Complex, OkayAfrica, RESPECT, among others, and spoke on the debut panel for UNPACK, an initiative TOBi founded highlighting constructive discussions on mental wellness in the creative community, in 2019.

At the height of the pandemic one year ago, Haviah leaned into the foundation of her work ethic to continue cultivating sharp prose and production practice. “Good On My Own Tonight feat TOBi” follows the silky coattails of recent singles “Obeah,” tapped by Rolling Stone as a ‘Song You Need To Know,’ “Antisocial feat. Old Man Saxon,” “Atlantic,” examining the roots of unequal labour and its impact on marginalized communities worldwide, and “Occasion.” Amidst all the lockdowns and touring cancellations, Haviah has still garnered international recognition from the BBCGQ, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Consequence, Atwood, HotNewHipHop, FLOOD, and more.
