Introducing Bien et Toi
Introducing LA-based producer and songwriter Bien et Toi, who today shares his latest cut of solo music titled ‘Vous Venez Souvent Ici?’, which comes alongside the announcement of his forthcoming EP Voici out August 29. LISTEN TO VOUS VENEZ SOUVENT ICI? HERE + WATCH HERE.
Bien et Toi is the project of Mercury and BRIT award-winning, GRAMMY and Ivor Novello nominated producer Gianluca Buccellati. Over the course of his expansive career, Buccellati has lent a hand in producing for artists including Lana Del Rey (Lust For Life), Biig Piig (The Sky is Bleeding), Tei Shi, Paris Texas, Declan McKenna, and largely for Arlo Parks’ Mercury Prize-winning, GRAMMY-nominated 2021 debut album Collapsed in Sunbeams.
A prolific collaborator, Bien et Toi marks the pursuit of solo direction to further shape a sound on Buccellati’s own terms. Artfully combining multitudes of genre, Bien et Toi subverts traditional electronic forms to deliver a dream-beat, soulful and purposeful sound. With press breakthroughs including The New York Times, GUAP and Notion that brought him to wide attention, his first EP London Safari quickly set the solo tone and garnered acclaim across Clash Magazine, KCRW, Dummy, and more for his charismatic and elegant presentation.
The single is the first to be lifted from the project’s forthcoming EP Voici, due for release on August 29. Embracing his intuition as an artist and producer that sees him capable of drawing up new directions, ‘Vous Venez Souvent Ici?’ radiates effortless confidence, despite it being mapped as a previously unexplored territory for Buccellati. An intricate production, ‘Vous Venez Souvent Ici?’ layers sophisticated basslines with shuffling synths to match the energy of the track: a highly-polished display of musical versatility.
Of the process behind the single, Buccellati reveals, “This track began the journey of my second EP. I wanted to dive into a more electronic realm on this project, I wanted to make people dance. I’d just come home from Portola festival last year and realized I’ve always had a deep love for electronic music which I’ve never really explored publicly.”
Music has always been a constant in Buccellati’s life. His childhood home in New York housed a recording studio packed with instruments, with Buccellati eventually moving his bedroom into the studio and setting up shop. “My dad and I would watch baseball and Black Sabbath concerts, then try to play the songs and jam,” he explains. “Friends would come over and we’d start bands and I eventually started studying music.” His music education was furthered when Buccellati headed to Berklee College of Music to study songwriting and philosophy, which was short-lived when he moved back to New York City to collaborate with then-unknown artist Tei Shi, where he took on the writing and producing duties for her 2013 debut EP Saudade, marking a breakthrough moment for his career.
Bien et Toi is an expansion of creative horizons with a dynamic approach to honest music production. Stay tuned for more to come from Bien et Toi soon.
