‘Love Language’ is out now – buy/stream it here

Following a premiere on BBC Radio 1xtra, rising Melbourne artist CD returns today with her sensual new single ‘Love Language’ – LISTEN HERE.

Produced by Grammy-winning creative Jay Cooper (Robert Glasper, Xavier Mayne, Nikki Flores) and fellow Picked Last member Sam Varghese, ‘Love Language’ finally arrives after three years in the making. The song is a sonic exploration of seduction and desire, and CD’s signature honeyed vocals are nothing short of siren-like: as alluring as they are magnetic. Lyrically, CD references the push and pull of compromise in romantic relationships – wanting to be loved in the way she deserves.

She shares, “‘Communicating, it could be easy’ is probably the simplest way I can explain love languages and the meaning behind this song. Learning someone else’s love language/s to me means learning how to communicate in a way that’s both easy and valuable to them. Now, in a time where more and more people are aware of the love languages, I thought this song could be a nice little conversation starter for lovers on Valentine’s Day.”

‘Love Language’ sets the scene perfectly, with smooth synths and intricate percussion that gradually build into a dance groove. CD is intentional in her craft, wanting to show a new side of her songwriting with this release. She adds, “All my previous releases have been a lot slower than ‘Love Language’. But I do think it still has the same essence and sense of nostalgia that I’ve found is present in all my songs.“

With her intuitive approach to contemporary R&B, CD has established herself as an in-demand vocalist, songwriter and collaborator: teaming up with Pania on ‘Catcha Grip’ (2021), and Gold Fang on ‘Drop’ (2022), and as a key member of underground Melbourne music collective Picked Last.

The soulstress from Melbourne’s western suburbs has left many enamoured by her provocative mode. With an evolved palette that touches influences of jazz, neo-soul and hip-hop, the singer / songwriter has developed a sound that’s sui generis. Already seeing early support from the likes of Triple J Unearthed and Acclaim in Australia, and BBC 1xtra overseas, with every release CD continues to prove that she is one of Australia’s most compelling new acts.
