Introducing DeepFaith
Today, DeepFaith share their new single ‘DADDY’, a yearning fantasia that dares to gaze into the parental void. Conjuring the stately elegance of Air as much as the mischievous sonic left turns of the KLF or The Beta Band, ‘DADDY’ is a blissful and disorienting step into the ever-expanding world of DeepFaith. LISTEN HERE.
Encompassing the myriad of emotions and roles of a father figure in a boy’s life, including inspiration, admiration, validation, approval, pride, and love, this figure takes on diverse forms. Says DeepFaith of ‘DADDY’, “’DADDY’ places a unique emphasis on a boy’s journey into manhood and his relationship with love and the father figure. In the context of a queer journey, ‘DADDY’ assumes the roles of caregiver and mentor for a younger male. In today’s modern society, boys face considerable pressure to conform to traditional masculinity, potentially stifling their ability to embrace vulnerability. Regardless of gender, the father figure provides a source of guidance and someone to look up to. Ultimately, the boy simply yearns for love; he longs for his DADDY”.
DeepFaith is the hybrid art and music project helmed by Daniel Stricker (drummer for Midnight Juggernauts, founder of Siberia Records, and collaborator with the likes of Kirin J Callinan, Alex Cameron, Solange, and Kelsey Lu) and Byron Spencer (the acclaimed multidisciplinary artist who’s helmed projects for Troye Sivan, Lady Gaga, and Dev Hynes). DeepFaith have already begun to build out their practice of transcendental techno-utopianism: they’ve brought a ‘Crypto Digital Opera’ to the Sydney Opera House, performed for Chanel, put on sold-out Crypt shows, collaborated with Snoop Dogg, and have shared stages with Jamie xx and The Avalanches.
DeepFaith have already turned heads: Office praised ‘Hold Me‘ as “spooky, experimental, and haunting — just how we like it.” PAPER describes the video for ‘Until We Fly‘ as “A surreal acid trip through the Australian outback with floating CGI avatars, drumming spacemen and oversaturated sunsets.” DeepFaith are currently on the road now with Genesis Owusu, see full dates below.
