Introducing FADER Label’s Newest Signing: country girl
Today, Brooklyn-based artist country girl re-ups his fresh supply of sunnily romantic, sea salt-tinged pop songs with new single “your favorite girl,” following the announcement of his signing to FADER Label. He’ll also play two shows in NYC in August, more info below. Listen to “your favorite girl” HERE.
country girl is an IV drip of lushly orchestrated, crystalline indie pop; a modern and reflective outlook into Belle and Sebastian’s “Electronic Renaissance,” with a sunny strumming that heavily evokes The Sundays, with heavy influence and respect for both Sheryl Crow and The Clientele. His debut single, the self-released “tastes like cherry,” caught the attention of FADER Label with its Saint Etienne meets LEN’s “Steal My Sunshine” addictiveness.
Speaking on the new track, country girl says: “‘your favorite girl’ is a song about the movie scenes we film, direct, and act in our heads while in the frenzy of a crush. It’s a song about how we cast ourselves as the female lead, the desire to adore and be adored. That feeling, at the end of the night, cheek against the pillow, with the AC purring: that we all just want to be someone’s favorite girl… ya know? :,)”
Raised in New York and now based in Brooklyn, country girl was home-schooled as a teen to study classical composition at Juilliard, sequestered away from contemporary music and influenced instead by the lush textures of composers like Maurice Ravel and Steve Reich. country girl synthesizes his classical upbringing with a studied appreciation for modern pop craft to create songs that feels like the very essence of a sticky New York summer, an exploration of those little moments when your heart bursts out of your chest, when you have to pour a whole bottle of water on your head and you don’t even feel cold when it hits.
Summer may be winding down but country girl is just winding up, ready to elongate the warmth well into this fall.
