Introducing FUR; listen to new song ‘Angel Eyes’ out today via Nice Swan Records
Introducing FUR, the Brighton-based quartet who today release their new hook-laden single ‘Angel Eyes’. Watch the video HERE.
The track is the first to be taken off their self-titled debut EP set for release next Feb 14 via Nice Swan Records, one of the most exciting new labels of 2018 and landing pad for early releases from the likes of breakout acts Sports Team, Pip Blom and Sweaty Palms. The EP itself, is a collection of warm, nostalgia-inducing yet fresh sounding songs from band truly coming into their own.
FUR are William Murray (guitar, vocals), Harry Saunders (guitar), William Tavener (bass) and Flynn Whelan (drums). Formed just over three years ago in the seaside town that the band still call home, FUR might not have expected this sudden change of fortune, but their ambition and determination was there from the start. Meeting initially on a Freshers internet forum, Murray and Harry had formed the basis of the group and began writing before they even started their first day of uni. When finding other flatmates, their only requirement was that they play either drums or bass. “I was very aware that going to a place like Brighton would definitely allow you to do the band thing,” explains the singer. “So when me and Harry met each other we thought, let’s get it started as soon as possible so we’re not wasting time.”
Despite being relatively early in their life as a band, FUR crafted their sound early on, writing intelligent songs penned to a particularly nostalgic strain of guitar music. Taking the age-old love song trope and reinvigorating it, theirs are tracks that feel familiar and classic but with a vibrancy that’s entirely new. “The three most written-about things are love, money and sex”, mentions Murray. “One I’m not that comfortable writing about, and I don’t have that much money, but everyone’s felt some feeling of love and there’s something powerful about that. It’s the strongest emotional connection I can have with a song.”
With bassist Tav and drummer Flynn soon completing the line up, waste time they did not. Last autumn’s ‘If You Know That I’m Lonely’ is testament to that. Armed with a camera and a £100 budget, the group headed to the woodland of New Forest to shoot the video to the single which you can watch back here. Over 2.5 million Spotify streams and 3.6 millions YouTube hits later, the band earned fast-spreading listenership and praise from all over the world, landed support slots to the likes of The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Miles Kane, as well as early pick up from BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq.
The band are currently on tour Matt Maltese. See dates and details here and stay tuned for more from FUR in 2019.
