Today, Gab Ferreira — the São Paolo-based singer, songwriter, and model — announces Carrossel, a new album of dreamily rendered and alluringly strange psychedelic pop due out October 10 via DVLPMNT / Balaclava Records.

Joining various streams of Brazilian music — bossa nova, Tropicália, and the country’s thriving modern indie scene — with influences from trip-hop, Japanese psych rock, and electronic music, Carrossel is a visionary transmission from a restless musical mind. Throughout ten tracks sung in Portuguese and English, Ferreira radiates a meditative warmth, in awe at the mysteries of nature and the never-ending possibilities of sound.

Accompanying the album announcement is lead single “Law of Nature.” Amid swirling vocal harmonies and exquisite beds of synthesizers, the track feels oceanic — its light, twitchy percussion glints like catches of sun on water while a bass buoys below. As Ferreira shares, “Law Of Nature” explores “reconnecting with the spark in everyday life, falling in love with the unknown and learning to take risks.”

Pre-save Carrossel here.

Carrossel is inspired by the close observation of what Ferreira describes as “codes from nature” — everything from the spirals in shells to the configuration of rocks in the sand — as well as her studies of Buddhism and pagan theology. Propelled by a desire to connect with nature’s divine essence, she eschewed her typical electronic processes in favor of a more organic approach, centering live instrumentation and in-the-room sound as she built up songs initially written on just guitar or piano.

At 26 years old, Gab Ferreira has already played Lollapalooza Brasil, has been modeling since she was 17, and is set to play Balaclava Fest with Stereolab, FCUKERS, and Yo La Tengo this fall. Releasing her first record, Lemon Squeeze, at only 19 years old. The entirely self-written, English-language project introduced viral singles “Alone With Everybody” and “Not Yours.” That same year, Gab also collaborated with singer YMA on their hit “Summer Lover.” In recent years, she expanded her sound into the world of electronic music, collaborating with American DJs Baltra and Planet Express on a remix of “Karma” — the first single from her second album, Visions — and the drum and bass track “Here.” These partnerships helped Gab gain a global presence, attracting international listeners and placing her on Spotify charts in countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States.

She’s the very definition of living fearlessly and in the moment — carving a path for herself as a female producer, performer, and songwriter (in multiple languages), all the while uncovering gems in the depths of caverns others may not have been so curious, playful, or unafraid to find.
