Meet Gadigal land/Sydney based vocalist, songwriter and producer Headaches, who today shares their new single ‘Sweeter Than This’ lifted from their upcoming EP We’ll Make Our Beds When We Get Home Home out October 16 via dottidot. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

‘Sweeter Than This’ is a lo-fi, confessional track that moves between enthralling shoegaze and sparse synth-pop. Emerging as an artist with a sound akin to Ydegirl or Chanel Beads, moved by music from Sade and early Tei Shi, the project of Melisa Bester, Headaches’ musicality lies within their mesmerising ability to craft honest depictions of growing up, feelings of lust, loneliness and the drive for something new.

Speaking to the release, they reveal “This song is about being stuck in a detached, metropolitan loop. It’s about you and your peers going through the motions of what you think it means to be alive. It’s satirical and ironic, mimicking the humorous avoidance we live by.” With a sound that unfolds patiently, Headaches’ arresting composition is replete with sincere lyricism, swelling production and the feeling of being young and stuck in the city – all of which is sketched across their forthcoming EP.

Having made and released music under the pseudonym E^ST since 2014, Headaches emerges with a DIY ethos and a sonic evolution that pulls towards more intricate, enigmatic electronic production. In 2024 Headaches released Making Friends with the Space Around Me, a collaborative album with Golden Vessel (1tbsp), before releasing their debut solo EP Looking For Something New which cultivated fans across triple j, triple j Unearthed, KEXP, FBi Radio and more.

Their forthcoming EP We’ll Make Our Beds When We Get Home sees the artist return to dottidot, the indie label founded by GRAMMY-nominated artist Maxwell Byrne (1tbsp, Golden Vessel).
