Meet MUNGMUNG, the Eora-based multidisciplinary artist who today unveils her latest single ‘PRINCE CHARMING’ with the announcement of Boujee Bby her forthcoming album out on June 16. LISTEN + WATCH HERE.
Ushering into 2023 with a new realm of authentic creativity, MUNGMUNG sends tremors through her bold aesthetic reminiscent of early-2000s, powerful vocals, and infectious melodies that are anchored in the sonics of hip hop and R&B. Marking her place with her 2021 debut single ‘Missed Calls’, MUNGMUNG was met with excitement by listeners across the globe with her follow up debut EP MAIN CHARACTER, which made waves across triple j, FBi Radio, The Sydney Morning Herald, MTV, Complex AU and more for her take on soulful melodies and clever lyrics that linger.
Now, MUNGMUNG is ready to share her next batch of new music, by the way of ‘PRINCE CHARMING’. A clear-eyed piece of warm R&B, she illustrates her eclectism on full display that observes the notion of a MUNGMUNG love song with more than enough confidence to spell out the feeling of falling in love with that person.
With a video accompaniment directed by Jordan Mung, MUNGMUNG speaks to the track: “Falling in love in song form. Love can sometimes be in one’s head – Is this real or is it just me? ‘PRINCE CHARMING’ is all about the moment where it all clicks with that person. They’ve defied all odds, crossed the seven seas, fought the dragon, always been by you, kind-hearted AF and see you for you -type shit. I wanted to capture the blissful fairytale we all dream of through sweet, laid-back delivery and flow. T’s crazy sampling also hits in the feels, tying it all together.”
Self-assured and full of personality, her forthcoming LP Boujee Bby is delivered at MUNGMUNG’s heightened self and teems with authenticity as an extension of her art. Presenting the gift of creative versatility, whether it be ultra-soft or vigorous, MUNGMUNG’s dynamism shines the clearest through her ability to transport listeners into her world.
The announcement of Boujee Bby follows MUNGMUNG’s much-loved return, one that has already seen her land FBi Radio’s Independent Artist of the Week, deliver her unmatched live energy on triple j’s Bars of Steel and a performance at Phoenix Central Park, alongside a resume of support slots including Ngaiire, Taka Perry, Chelsea Warner, BOYSODA, Billy Davis, Gold Fang and Pyjama Sundayz, MUNGMUNG was also among the 2022 BIGSOUND lineup, of which triple j described as “a perfect way to kick off BIGSOUND. An emerging artist with a cutting-edge sound and approach to performing – precisely the kind of thing so many of us are seeking this week.”
MUNGMUNG has also announced she will be joining KUČKA for the Sydney leg of her ‘Cry Cry Cry’ Tour tonight and will be making an appearance at Bad Friday Lite this April. Stay tuned for more to come from MUNGMUNG.
