was it worth it‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

Meet Riley From Earth, the Eora/Sydney based multi-instrumentalist who today shares his new single and video ‘was it worth it’. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

Endearing and anthemic, ‘was it worth it’ delves into the ephemeral nature of connection, and the duality between being swept up in the moment and the objectivity that develops over time. Incorporating tropes of off-kilter guitar and gentle shoegaze vocals, Riley From Earth brings to life a charm and musicality akin to Toro Y Moi or Mk.gee – mesmerising, transportative and motivated by his own contortion in the world.

Speaking to the release, Riley shares, “‘was it worth it’ is about the different phases of a tumultuous relationship and being in the overwhelming stage of watching that relationship come to an end. Witnessing someone once close slowly become a stranger and feeling like your world is being ripped apart. Until enough time passes you’re able to view the situation from a passenger seat and things become much clearer.”

The accompanying music video came from hours of handy cam footage taken by Riley’s inner circle. Riley shares, “My friend Matthew had a handy cam in his hand everyday, filming whatever we were up to, and naturally there was a story in the moments he caught. We coupled the handy cam footage with me surrounded by nature to capture the more direct point of view of the song.”

First releasing music under the moniker Oshan, including his first EP Music At Home and follow-up single ‘Love Hate (feat. Rome Fortune)’, ‘was it worth it’ is the continuation of Riley Wingfield’s string of releases under the Riley From Earth name. Writing, producing, performing and mixing his own work, he takes a hands-on approach, creating a distinctive & eclectic sound representing a pastiche of his own varied influences – from electronic, indie rock, post-punk, R&B and more.

Finding fans across the world in Mixmag, The Music, triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, George FM (NZ) and more, Riley From Earth muses on a glow of sincerity and confident fluidity, sketching out a territory unlike any of his previous work. With introspective lyricism that contrasts his genre-bending compositions, Riley continues to broaden his emotional depth and sonic exploration with each release.
