Introducing Spacey Jane with “Booster Seat”; “life-affirming” (The Guardian)
Meet Spacey Jane, one of Australia’s breakout acts of 2020. Known for their warm, nostalgic guitar jams and thoughtful storytelling, listen to a new edit of their runaway single “Booster Seat” out today HERE.
On the heels of their 2020 debut album Sunlight, Spacey Jane have garnered tens of millions of streams, sold out three national tours, and hit #2 in triple j’s iconic Hottest 100 2020 poll. The Perth-raised four-piece take nods from the likes of Kings of Leon, The 1975, Real Estate; compacting deeply personal stories of failed relationships, mental health struggles and the escapism of your late-teens/early-twenties into jangly summer dreamscapes.
Of “Booster Seat,” Spacey Jane says, “The premise is a kid sitting in booster seat that mum or dad had to put them with their feet dangling about the car floor and having basically no control, completely at the mercy of the people they love. It’s a metaphor of for losing control of yourself in love through anxiety, and relying on the person you love to protect and keep you from harm.”
Newly released today with an alternate edit, the double-time guitar riff of “Booster Seat” lilts through the track somehow both in a hurry and a haze, like it’s too hot to go any faster. The chorus is huge – packed tight with Caleb Harper’s emotive vocals – while still articulating such an intimate moment: “Well, you held me from the back of the front seat, and you told me all the times that you’d lied to me.”
Their debut album Sunlight reached #2 on the ARIA album charts, won the triple JAlbum of the Year Poll, and pre-pandemic landed them on festival stages like Falls Festival, Splendour in the Grass, and more. Next month, they’ll host a special ticketed livestream performance showcasing their vibrant talent, details to be announced.
