Introducing: Stay At Home Son
Introducing Stay At Home Son, the alias of 21-year-old solo artist Jesse Martin-Allan who today shares his debut single ‘Bluffs and Blocks’ via Melbourne-based label Neat Lawn formed by Gab Strum aka Japanese Wallpaper in 2016. Listen below:
Stay At Home Son writes nuanced, atmospheric electronic music with an inviting emotional bent. Presented with a five-star review by triple j Unearthed’s Dave Ruby Howe, ‘Bluffs and Blocks’ documents Martin-Allan’s transition to adulthood and the pressures that ensue and has been lauded for its “warped edges” and easy-going nature. Of the song he notes, “A big part of me is always building up barriers to protect myself from doing or saying the wrong thing and looking like a fool, but this same part of me inevitably protects me from the things I really want to do. Bluffs and Blocks is about me trying to be comfortable getting things wrong and being vulnerable.”
The Wollongong via New Zealand producer has spent the last two years refining his song-writing ability, drawing influences from a wide range of styles which has resulted in the unique, subtle array of sounds on display in his debut self titled EP, due for release in 2016.
‘Bluffs and Blocks‘ is out now via Neat Lawn. Pre-order the forthcoming Stay At Home Son EP with an instant download of ‘Bluffs & Blocks‘ via Bandcamp.
