Even When I’m Leaving‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

Wishlist is the new collaborative project from Naarm/Melbourne producers and longtime creative partners Stella Farnan and Soren Maryasin – a duo whose years of shared artistic trust crystallise in music that feels both intimate and immediate. LISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

Their debut single, ‘Even When I’m Leaving’, drifts in the space between closeness and undoing; a meditation on the quiet rupture of change. Anchored by tactile electronics, fractured samples, and an evolving sense of momentum, the track captures the moment before a decision settles, where love and distance blur into something less easily named. “That’s where the song lives – in the tension between care and the need to transform,” the duo says.

Written and recorded in a secluded studio outside the city, the track marks a natural evolution in the pair’s creative relationship. “It came out of letting instinct take the lead,” they explain. “Soren brought in these bold, slightly unhinged sonic gestures, while Stella’s production instincts moved everything into this strange, emotionally charged clarity. We didn’t chase a sound – we followed what was already happening.”

Wishlist construct their songs like puzzles, layering wooden percussion, resampled vocals, and manipulated synth textures into arrangements that are both intricate and expansive. Their sound resists fixed genre but draws on the emotional surrealism of Caroline Polachek and the intricate, surreal world-building of artists like Sylvan Esso or Sorry. Drawing on their background as touring musicians and studio collaborators (with artists like Mallrat, Angie McMahon, Gretta Ray, Stella Bridie and others), they’ve arrived at their most personal work to date – detailed, sample-driven pop that unfolds in unexpected directions, with a sense of elegance, friction, and transformation.

Their creative method mirrors that tension: a co-production model with no central driver, just two laptops, two headphone sets, and a shared tape-machine-style device capturing live ideas as they emerge. Whether working remotely or side by side, they build songs in real time, dismantling and reassembling until something unexpected surfaces. “It’s a circular process,” they say. “There’s no clear beginning or end – just a loop between us.”

Visually and sonically, Wishlist evoke a world that’s starry, cinematic, and slightly out of reach – equal parts bold and weightless, soft and angular. For Farnan and Maryasin, the project marks a turning point: a space where pop can hold both emotion and abstraction without sacrificing either. They are building something they believe in – no half-measures, just treasure. ‘Even When I’m Leaving’ is the first document of that world – restless, considered, and quietly spellbinding.

The pair will play their debut show this August 25 at the Northcote Social Club (RSVP HERE), ahead of their appearance at BIGSOUND 2025.
