Irish Duo 49th & Main Drop “Rewind,” A Piano House Belter for 5am Heart-to-Hearts
TRACKLIST
Today, Irish duo 49th & Main offer up the new single “Rewind,” a track that lands somewhere between a breakbeat therapy session and a kitchen-floor heart-to-heart. Featuring rising UK vocalist mustbejohn, it’s the final single before their long-awaited debut album Happy Tears drops June 13 via Counter Records (Ninja Tune).

Initially written as a clubbier, house-driven track, “Rewind” took a left turn when the pair realized the production didn’t quite reflect the raw sentiment of the lyrics. So they tore it down and started again, rebuilding the song around John’s hook and a set of new chords that immediately clicked. The result is five minutes of emotional sleight-of-hand: a tune that evolves constantly, pulling you through misty-eyed memories while keeping your feet moving.
For mustbejohn, the feature is a natural fit. A self-proclaimed “glass half full kind of guy,” his music captures the strange optimism of youth in limbo, cheeky pints, hazy raves, and questioning of what’s next. On “Rewind,” his voice grounds the track’s swirling energy with something quietly profound. That sentiment echoes through every second of the single that somehow etches a sound akin to growing up without ever losing your sense of fun.
The track also arrives with a music video by rising French director Alice Berry, alongside a Live Redirect interview where the band deep-dive into the making of the album, the magic of collaboration, and why nostalgia might be their favorite instrument.

To mark today’s release, 49th & Main are going all-in. Alongside a London pop-up DJ event with Jubel Beer at Strongroom (first 50 through the door get a free pint, obviously), they’ll be performing instores across Ireland. From Tower Records Dublin to Steamboat in Limerick plus spinning live sets in Irish charity shops with a mobile printing press in tow. It’s DIY with vision, and a masterclass in how to meet the community where they are, literally.
As Happy Tears edges closer, 49th & Main are reminding us that their biggest strength isn’t just genre-blending, energetic concerts, or production. It’s emotion without ego and storytelling with sweat on its brow. “Rewind” is proof of that: it’s a tune you’ll dance to, cry to, and rewind over and over.
