Today, local rapper Kapulet teams up with multifaceted hip hop artist Yeloboi Tommy on their new collaborative track ‘Riding’. LISTEN HERE.
Produced by Kaydeepro, 99Hurts and mixed by Sid Mallick, ‘Riding’ dives deep on hip-hop sonics and melodic rap flows that cut through the mainstream, offering up a perspective into the differences in culture and area. With Kapulet hailing from Dharug Land / Mount Druitt and Hong Kong-born YeloboiTommy from Dharug Land / Pennant Hills, the track boasts a powerful arrangement of energy and production that is unique in style.
The release sees an immersive new level of production for Kapulet, one that elevates his already established hard-hitting palette to showcase the perceptions of where you are from and the differences in area dynamics. Kapulet shares “I went a different way to my usual afro type beat but went with a more in the feels & dark beat produced by Kaydeepro, still kept the melodic rap that I’m use to but this song is just something about what goes on around me & just me speaking what’s on my mind at the time.” For Yeloboi Tommy, “in the song I’m expressing my feelings towards my brothers who are in jail and also my brothers who are outside and the love I got for them, and also expressing my story through my words and my energy I put in the song.”
The release follows Kapulet’s recent single ‘Summer’ and his joint release with ONEFOUR on ‘How We Livin‘, which garnered acclaim on triple j, triple j Unearthed, FBi Radio, 2SER and MTV alongside support from Rolling Stone Australia, Red Bull Australia, NME, Purple Sneakers and over3 million online streams.
Influenced by their own personal experiences, ‘Riding’ is a unique embrace of individual upbringing. It’s no secret that Western Sydney is bursting at the seams with creativity, and for Kapulet, sharing music that is authentically representative of where he comes from, while still giving his community a chance to enjoy pure, unadulterated fun, is paramount. On the surface, his music indulges in the happy-go-lucky, but beneath, Kapulet shares messages of resilience and relationships with character, laced in scintillating head-bopping production.
