A call to ignite and recognise his own headliner status, ‘KAVICHELLA’ is a nostalgic Y2K tribute to iPods, tumblr and Belieber/Directioner adherence that sonically traps the free spirited electronica of Troye Sivan with the pop dappled sound of Cosmo’s Midnight. Synths crash against 80s drum machines popping like bubbles, with reverberant keys that thrust 2000s EDM into 2024.
A narrative for a playful interpolation that chases a connection deeper than unrequited club-loving, ‘KAVICHELLA’ is a pristine slice of blood-pumping activity. Kavi shares, “If ‘KAVICHELLA’ was released in 2016, it would have soundtracked Kylie Jenner’s King Kylie era. If ‘KAVICHELLA’, Tumblr, Lindsay Lohan’s mugshots and an iPod Classic appeared on an edition of NYT Connections, their common thread would be ‘Pillars Of Pop Culture’. ‘KAVICHELLA’ is for the girls who use VSCO to edit their Voss water bottle photos before uploading them to Instagram. ‘KAVICHELLA’ is for Beliebers and Directioners, for Miami and Ibiza spring breakers, and for ripped skinny jeans stans. ‘KAVICHELLA’ can be found under the definition of Pop Music on Urban Dictionary.”
Intertwining the cultural pop landscape two decades ago with elements of hyperpop, ‘KAVICHELLA’ keeps pace with the mainstream’s fascination with the underground, which only amplifies his own creative earnestness. ‘KAVICHELLA’ reminds us that Kavi is an artist committed to his craft, with a songwriting proficiency that is wholly connected in its theming and production.
With a high-octane and ethereal approach, Kavi’s 2022 debut EP KRUSHED! saw support from PAPER Magazine, VICE, Rolling Stone, InStyle, MTV, triple j, triple j Unearthed amongst others. Now based in London, his electrifying live sets have taken over stages from Sydney WorldPride, Heaps Gay, BIGSOUND and Coalesce Collective parties to supporting daine, WIIGZ, Breakfast Road and more, spanning techno, house and pop to fuel dance-floors. Kavi has walked runways at Melbourne Fashion Festival and Afterpay Australia Fashion Week, appeared in campaigns for Gucci x The North Face, Google Pixel, Above The Clouds and featured alongside Jamaica Moana on HANDSOME’s track ‘EGO’ – part of her mixtape Every Second We Try.
