PRAISE FOR WRESTLING

“Wrestling sounds like nothing else out this year, which shouldn’t be surprising given that
its author is a conduit for the most cutting-edge sounds in the world”

The Guardian

“After huge collaborations with the likes of Flume and A$AP Rocky, producer
Laura Jane Lowther is making an uncompromising statement of her own”

NME

“There’s beauty in the way KUČKA creates her soundscapes;
infusing them with hypnotic rhythms, and also sparseness that can really captivate”

triple j

“The album captures the ecstasy and agony of reinvention, from the turbulence of leaving everyone behind to the excitement of meeting someone new”

Electronic pop savant KUČKA today shares her first release in a stream of new music, ‘Messed Up‘ via Soothsayer / LuckyMe, ahead of her upcoming appearance at the Sydney Opera House for VIVID LiveLISTEN HERE + WATCH HERE.

On ‘Messed Up‘, KUČKA takes the foundations of UK garage and alters their composition, taking new shape with swan-like synths, sizzling bass and chopped-up vocal breaks. Here KUČKA‘s one-of-a-kind cosmic vocals are pushed to new automated heights, charged up to their peak only to rupture at their drop. Consistent with the “digital soul” (CLASH) that KUČKA has steadily cultivated a following for, ‘Messed Up‘ makes clear her careful hand at production.

In her own words, KUČKA reveals, “Messed up is about situations that we can get into that we know are bad for us, but it’s also the reason that we are drawn to them. I actually wrote this song a few years back but could never get the production to work. A few months ago I sat down with it again and decided to start the production from scratch and everything just clicked within a couple of hours.”

This June, following her appearance alongside Flume at CoachellaKUČKA will perform at the Sydney Opera House as part of VIVID Live and Dark Mofo respectively. For VIVIDKUČKA will appear in collaboration with longstanding friend and peer, Boorloo / Perth creative Bootleg Comics, directed by Lowther’s longstanding creative director Dillon Howl to debut an exclusive audio-visual experience of hand-drawn, abstract animations that will morph to each beat of KUČKA‘s set – indicative of the free form, organic shapes, and textures that both inspire and are found in her music.

Her first release of 2022 follows her seminal debut album Wrestling, a product of her life as a global citizen and skilled producer. Created in the wake of major collaborations with A$AP RockyFlumeSOPHIEVegyn, and more, Laura Lowther’s earnest depiction of her experiences across love and growth saw widespread acclaim from triple jRolling StoneNMEThe GuardianSPINExclaim!BandcampFBi Radio (Album of the Week) and more, touting KUČKA as “unlike anything else coming out of Australia right now” (Red Bull Music). Experience Wrestling and more new music from KUČKA live at VIVID – see all ticket details BELOW.
