Matador (Strings)‘ is out now, buy/stream it here.

Fresh off the back of her first festival appearances of the year, rising femme-fatale of the underground Luvcat returns today with a new version of the song that started it all. ‘Matador (Strings)’ is a reimagination of her explosive debut single, in celebration of its one year anniversary. LISTEN HERE.

A tender and vulnerable recreation, the track blends indisputable emotion with the signature grit that Luvcat has championed from day one. She explains, “It feels so sweet to revisit the song that started everything on its first year anniversary. The strings break my heart every time. This song is about a torturous love affair and I still feel it in my guts when I sing it, there’s always been a strange magic to it for me.”

The latest release follows a landmark week for Luvcat, after performing her first festival slots of a jam-packed season. Playing to crowds at London’s Wide Awake, Manchester’s Neighbourhood Festival, Live at Leeds and Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Liverpool across just 3 days, she’s got 35 festival slots still to come, including a support slot at Sabrina Carpenter’s BST Hyde Park show on July 5, and appearances at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, Rock En Seine, Montreux Jazz festival and Mad Cool. The past month has already taken Luvcat on a headline tour across Europe – playing to crowds in Cologne, Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Berlin and Warsaw – as well as her first visit to the US for shows in New York and LA.

‘Matador (Strings)’ follows the most recent single ‘Lipstick’, as well as fan-favourites ‘He’s My Man’ and ‘Love & Money’, which propelled Luvcat onto the indie-alternative scene and commanded the attention of a fast-growing and reverent fanbase with over 30 million streams across just 5 singles. This was backed further by Luvcat being tipped as one of the top 3 artists to watch in 2025 – securing nods of approval from the likes of Rolling Stone UK, NME, Clash, Notion, Billboard UK, The Independent, Wonderland, DIY, Dork and more.

The latest release marks another bold chapter in the Luvcat mythology — a world steeped in escapism, lust, and vaudevillian drama. Since her incendiary debut with ‘Matador’, fans and critics alike have been lured into her shadowy cabaret of doomed romances and twisted fairytales. Whether she’s spinning tales of sailors or selling out jazz clubs and headline shows in minutes, Luvcat remains a shapeshifter — part rock’n’roll siren, part Moulin Rouge dream. Raised on a curious cocktail of The Cure and The Rat Pack, with a dash of Nick Cave and a love of eyeliner-soaked drama, Luvcat’s music fuses theatrical decadence with raw emotional electricity. From Liverpool’s backstreets to impromptu Parisian adventures, each track is a chapter in her ever-growing legend.
