PRAISE FOR Mei Semones

“A Brooklyn -based riser, Mei Semones is hard to categorise – a phenomenal guitar technician, she matches God-given chops (Flea is a fan, natch) with wonderful songwriting, performed in both English and Japanese. Yep, she’s a multi-lingual hyphenate with songs for days and endless proficiency – we’re not jealous, honest.”

Mei Semones today announces her long awaited Australian debut tour this June. The Brooklyn-based indie-jazz singer will be playing a limited run of headline shows at Sydney’s The Lansdowne on June 11th and Melbourne’s The Corner on June 14th. Presale tickets will go live Thursday March 5th at 10am local, with general access going live Friday March 6th at 10am local.  GENERAL SALE TICKETS HERE.

Signing to Brooklyn-based record label Bayonet Records (Beach Fossils), Semones released her debut album Animaru under the label in 2025, and received worldwide recognition for her songwriting that features a seamless, fluttering mix between English and Japanese lyrics. Mei describes her style of writing as something that comes with whatever feels natural to her at the time. As a former jazz student at Berklee – Mei finds herself drawing inspiration from adored transcripts, recordings and chord progressions she has heard over the years.

Coined an “artist to watch” by FADER Label, Pigeons & Planes, The NY Times and more – Mei Semones is a rising star. With her forthcoming EP Kurage on the way with an April 10th release date – you can hear a taste of what’s to come with newest single ‘Koneko’. A collaboration with British-Brazilian artist Liana Flores, ‘Koneko’ is a bossa-nova inspired song that celebrates the simple and pure joy of friendship. From walking along the canal in London, drinking tea and eating strawberries with your closest friends – this song celebrates friendship in its simplest and truest form.

Mei’s intro to music came at a time where picking up jazz was a new, exciting school activity. Since then, Mei developed a deep love for the community and made a commitment to herself to take this new found passion and turn it into her own distinct style. At just 25 years old, Mei Semones has already nailed debut headline shows across Japan, the United States, Europe and the United Kingdom, bringing a balance of intimacy with fullness. Having shared bills with the likes of Liana Flores, Elephant Gym and Kara Jackson, Mei transitioned into making music her full time career. This commitment to her craft has cemented Mei as one of the most exciting voices to emerge from the Brooklyn music community.

With an already impressive and growing discography under her belt – Mei is sure to win the hearts of her Australian fans ahead of her forthcoming EP and debut headline Australian shows.
