PRAISE FOR Mitski

“[A] thundering, theatrical single.”

New York Times on 'Where’s My Phone?'

“As a songwriter, Mitski harnesses resignation like no one else . . . But her most powerful moments often come when she lets us accompany her far past her breaking point.”

Pitchfork

“Mitski meets the moment perfectly on ‘Where’s My Phone?”

NYLON

“Where’s My Phone?’ feels like it emerged from the rocky soil, brash and unvarnished.”

FADER

“Nothing’s About to Happen to Me is a gutsy new record that returns to her roots with guitar-forward songs that center her candid lyrics.”

“A mesmerizing study in movement”, (Variety) Mitski’s live show has also been described as “highly stylized, brilliantly realized, super cool” (Philadelphia Inquirer) and “unusual, enigmatic and utterly compelling” (The Guardian). Additional stops include New York City, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Istanbul, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, London, Manila, Bangkok, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore. Support varies by city and includes Sex Week, Gustaf, La Zorra Zapata, HaleyHeynderickx, Maria Somerville, Tarta Relena, Gwenifer Raymond, and more. Full presale details for each city can be found at Mitski.com.

Following the “indie-rock anthem” (Billboard) ‘Where’s My Phone?’, ‘I’ll Change for You’ is nostalgic and mid-tempo as Mitski’s gorgeous vocal range is backed by a rich accompaniment of a string section, drums and percussion, pianos, guitar, flute, and vibraphone. With desperation, she sings: “‘Cause I’ll do anything // For you to love me again // If you don’t like me now // I will change for you.”

Nothing’s About to Happen to Me finds Mitski immersing herself in a rich narrative whose main character is a reclusive woman in an unkempt house. Outside of her home, she is a deviant; inside of her home, she is free. Directed by Lexie Alley and edited by Rena Johnson, the ‘I’ll Change for You’ video builds upon this world, zeroing in on the chaotic, untidy Tansy House universe presented in the album’s photos by Alley. Printed frame by frame onto film with hand-drawn marks and subtle unsettling distortions, the footage feels like a roll of film that could be found in the Tansy House: fragile, dilapidated, and probably buried under a pile of books.

Mitski wrote all of the songs and performed all of the vocals on Nothing’s About to Happen to Me. Produced and engineered by Patrick Hyland and mastered by Bob Weston, the album continues the musical through line established with 2023’s The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, and features live instrumentation by The Land touring band and ensemble arrangements. The orchestra was recorded at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, engineered by Michael Harris.
