Multidisciplinary artist MUNGMUNG today unveils her latest project FĒI, independently out now. LISTEN HERE.

A soundtrack built for club dancefloors, house parties and everything in-between, as a whole, FĒI relays the uninhibited gratification and amusement that comes with “vibing with crew to feeling yourself when you’re alone in your room”. Transporting listeners into a world of bold creativity, MUNGMUNG’s aesthetic is reminiscent of early-2000s, powerful vocals, and infectious melodies that are deep-rooted in the sonics of hip hop and R&B.  “I didn’t overthink a lot of the lyrics but still stayed cheeky and witty with it and the melodies that came to me were what felt right which reflects in the songs” shares MUNGMUNG. “I want everyone to lose it when the chords hit, when bars ride, when beats drop”.

Produced by Taka Perry (KATSEYE, Ruel), joining recent single ‘IAM’, supported by triple j, triple j Unearthed, 3RRR, RAGE and more, includes brand new tracks ‘POPDATTRUNK’, ‘WOMPX4’ and EP title track ‘FĒI’. On working with Perry, MUNGMUNG shares “All the tracks came out naturally during the writing process. Being in the same room as Taka is the best as there is synergy there. We bounce off each other so well and he never misses a beat (literally). He input so many unique elements into each track’s production, really giving them life.”

Self-assured and full of personality, MUNGMUNG’s craft teems with authenticity. Following the career-affirmative ‘IAM’ is ‘POPDATTRUNK’, a self-assertive, tongue-in-cheek confidence booster that pays homage to the late 90’s and 00’s and bass-heavy ‘WOMPX4’, a track that is “the kinda joint you play getting ready for the club, enroute to the club, at the afterparty then the afterparty to the afterparty.” Today’s focus track ‘FĒI’ (‘fly’ in Mandarin) rounds out the EP – confident, gritty and ambitious, it takes the idea of ‘only up from here’ and climbs to new heights, pushing forward without doubting or looking back too much and celebrating the wins that have come from hard work.

Marking her place with her 2021 debut single ‘Missed Calls’, MUNGMUNG was met with excitement by listeners across the globe with her follow up debut EP MAIN CHARACTER, which made waves across triple j, FBi Radio, The Sydney Morning Herald, MTV, Complex AU and more for her take on soulful melodies and clever lyrics that linger. Her 2023 debut album, BOUJEE BBY followed, giving more insight into her signature fun bounce as well as a peak into conscious soul, landing FBi Radio’s Independent Artist of the Week and support across Complex Australia, NME and Astrophe Magazine among others.

On the live circuit, MUNGMUNG has delivered her unmatched live energy across the territory supporting artists including Kaiit, Ngaiire, Yura, Taka Perry, Chelsea Warner and BOYSODA, featured on triple j’s Bars of Steel, performed at Phoenix Central Park and BIGSOUND lineup, of which triple j described her as an “emerging artist with a cutting-edge sound and approach to performing – precisely the kind of thing so many of us are seeking”.
