Today, Nina Las Vegas reunites with long-time collaborator Swick for their new single ‘Shot Caller’, featuring Amsterdam-based artist Zanillya. LISTEN HERE.
Marking Nina Las Vegas and Swick’s first collaboration since 2019, ‘Shot Caller’ captures the forward-thinking world of two club music scene leaders. Traversing their synonymous styles, ‘Shot Caller’ arrives in collaboration with Amsterdam-based triple threat singer, songwriter and producer Zanillya – known best for her genre-defying music that cuts across languages and cultures in releases including ‘Dushi Bida‘ and ‘Baddie‘, the latter being released in collaboration with Bacardi. Zanillya has been praised across the board for bridging “all of the spice and funk of her multicultural, musically-infused upbringing to create tracks that are as empowering as they are boogie-inducing” (Office Magazine).
A bold re-introduction from Nina and Swick, ‘Shot Caller’ is a true club cut powered by a heavy bassline, razor-sharp percussion, and Zanillya’s fierce topline. Speaking to the track, Nina shares “I have been sitting on a whole stack of almost finished music for a while now, waiting for the right time to release. Slowly re-gaining the courage and energy to release club music again, my biggest hurdle became actually finishing the songs I had. Knowing my hesitation, one night Swick challenged me to stop working on old music (and on running my label) and forced me to start a song. I pulled up an email chain with Zanillya who’d set some ideas over and this song happened in an hour. We are so happy how it turned out, a mix of club music and super sweet soul samples. I’m really proud to finally be releasing music again (after almost 5 years) with “Shot Caller”. It sounds like something I’d be so excited to hear out.”
‘Shot Caller’ is Nina and Swick converging their singular forces like you’ve never heard before. Nina Las Vegas’ impact and legacy within the club eco system extends across decades and borders, with her eponymous record label NLV Records championed for it’s forward-thinking, diverse, and original club music that has shaped the landscape of electronic music in Australia and beyond. In addition to NLV Records, her own musical output and endeavours expands to four EPs, remixes and collaborations with artists like Charli XCX, Cashmere Cat, Anna Lunoe and more, alongside extensive tours across North America, UK, Europe and Asia, curations for Prada and Armani Exchange and ambassador work for Nike Football, Women’s World Cup, Tennis Australia and Football Australia.
As a solo producer, Swick has quickly gained a reputation worldwide for his tight drums, energetic synths and genre-defying output. In his extensive career, he’s worked with the likes of Tkay Maidza, Kota Banks, Big Skeez, Gold Fang and more, blending dancehall, grime and hyperpop into his bold club-ready sound. His forward-thinking productions also extend internationally, with credits alongside Diplo on ‘Keep It Gully’ / ‘Dat A Freak’ (the latter which became the basis for Jennifer Lopez’s USA certified platinum record single ‘Booty’), M.I.A. (Mata), Big Zuu, Kamakaze and King Doudou.
As ‘Shot Caller’ sets the tone for the next chapter of NLV Records, it lands ahead of the label’s 10 year party The Metro Theatre this weekend – bringing together NLV’s past, present, and future artists for a high-energy night featuring Jubilee (NYC), Ninajirachi, Gold Fang, Big Skeez, Chaotic Good, dameeeela, Laces, Strict Face, Lewis CanCut, Swick, 1300, and a long-awaited reunion B2B from Nina Las Vegas and Anna Lunoe – more details BELOW.
