Nina Las Vegas reworks ‘Calor (ft. Ms. Nina) for Swick & King Doudou
PRAISE FOR Nina Las Vegas
“Crazy club music is what these two guys do best.”
“This multimedia project takes vaporwave’s nostalgia for the internet’s darker days, and its obsession with the hollowness of global capitalism, to their natural conclusion.”
“Now you can experience the full cyber-influenced aesthetic coupled with an obligatory webcam component.”
“Built around high-energy club tracks, leftfield production and a shared love of global dance music, the EP [Digi Mangal] promises to be one of the most exciting underground electronic releases of the summer.”
Swick & King Doudou announce their Digi Mangal (Remixes) EP, out 30 October via NLV Records, featuring remixes from Nina Las Vegas, DJ ADHD, Carli and Strict Face. The first taste, ‘Calor (feat. Ms Nina) (Nina Las Vegas Remix)’ is out today, alongside the EP pre-order. LISTEN HERE.
The remix keeps it in the family. The original, a Reggaeton classic that interpolates both Swick and King Doudou’s forward-thinking sound design with Ms Nina’s playful yet commanding vocals, takes on new life with Nina Las Vegas’ energetic rendition that is bright and punchy. Of the remix Nina Las Vegas shares, “I love the original ‘Calor’ but every time I played it, I found myself naturally speeding it up. The remix developed from there, adding extra bass and drums to make it even more dance and club-ready. Plus, nothing beats Nina’s remixing Nina’s!”
One of NLV Records’ cornerstone producers, Swick brings his high-voltage club sound together with King Doudou’s love of Latin American dembow on ‘Calor‘. Now, label head Nina Las Vegas puts her own spin on the track. Following ‘Shot Caller‘ with Swick and Zanilya, the remix marks a return to production for Nina, with more of her own music on the way.
‘Calor ft. Ms Nina’ arrived alongside ‘125cc Delivery’ as one of the singles from Digi Mangal, the NLV Records EP that also features ‘Severe Delays’, ‘Haloumi Drums’ and the baile funk-meets-grime track ‘No Messin Around’, with UK MCs Jammz and Geoblu. The project grew out of a creative partnership that began with 2014’s Internet Dreams EP.
Both projects are now available together on limited-edition vinyl, pairing Digi Mangal with Internet Dreams on the B-side. Just 150 hand-assembled copies were pressed, with around 20 remaining.
Digi Mangal was sketched out in London in 2018. “We ate strictly Mangal food delivered by motorcycle, played FIFA and eventually, four years after Internet Dreams, we started to work on some new music together” King Doudou recalls. The project has drawn support from NTS Radio, triple j, BBC Radio, Reprezent Radio, FBi Radio, Rinse FM, RRR and DJ backing from Ben UFO, Tash LC, Jamz Supernova, Conducta, DJ co.kr and umru.
The Nina Las Vegas remix of ‘Calor ft. Ms Nina’ doubles as the soundtrack to the next instalment of NLV Presents, the mix and event series curated by Nina to showcase forward-thinking underground club music from across so-called Australia. Returning to Milneys in Naarm/Melbourne on Friday 16 October, the night features Nina Las Vegas B2B Swick, FOURA B2B Shuga, Erika Ever and Laces. Attendees will be among the first to hear new music from across the NLV Records roster, and a run of rare and new label merchandise will be available on the night.
