girl EDM by Ninajirachi is out now, buy/stream here

Ninajirachi today shares the sequel to her 2023 4×4 EP, with girl EDM out now via NLV Records. LISTEN HERE.

A project that sees Ninajirachi offer a refreshing take on existing styles of EDM, girl EDM is forward thinking and futuristic in how she recalls the initial sound that first inspired her to pursue music production. Traversing her token icy, glitchy textures with the club sounds of late 2000s & early 2010s, Ninajirachi pulls apart the seams of hard dance, electro house, progressive house and trance with a left-field twist, emblematic of the music she was ‘born to make’.

Ninajirachi shares “It’s just girl EDM… You get it or you don’t. People love to ask artists how they’d describe their sound, and recently I realised mine is literally girl EDM”. She reveals “EDM was the music that first made me want to become a producer when I was a 12 year old in 2012. My taste grew and changed but EDM and dance pop raised me and so many in my generation. Girl EDM is like a sister and sequel to my 4×4 EP from 2023, they are like one big project in my mind. If I had more patience it probably would have been one big album”.

Including the previously released hard dance-leaning ‘Hand on my heart’ and avant-electro ‘Ninacamina’ with Izzy Camina, we’re presented with two new tracks ‘girl EDM’ and ‘Ice u out’, both of which hone in on the EP’s main themes that are unbound by expectation and rich in energy. An artistic output that marks an extension of Ninajirachi’s position herself, girl EDM cultivates a space to open the conversation around producers – especially female producers – in the EDM scene, dialling in on the new wave moving the needle on their own terms.

Title track ‘girl EDM’ channels a synth-pop vs. electro-house ego, of which Nina says “All the other songs on the EP are at least 8 months old, but this one I made literally a month ago when I got home from my USA tour. I’m glad it was done in time to make the tracklist, because it’s probably the most up-to-date representation of what I’m producing right now”. Spotlighted today is ‘Ice u out’, which following last year’s ‘Kota on the plane’ sees Nina team up again with longtime collaborator Kota Banks for a pop-infused, hard-dance production at 150 BPM. “Kota and I wrote this together in 2021, completely forgot about it and then unearthed it again late last year” Nina unveils. “She’s featured on almost every release of mine over the last 4 years. I know we will be lifelong friends and working together feels effortless. Btw Kota on the plane enjoyers might hear something familiar in Ice u out.”

Firmly cementing her position in the Australian industry and international music landscape, Ninajirachi rises with the release of girl EDM. Her 2023 4×4 EP marked a new artistic expansion that drew from her earliest influences of electronic music, collecting praise from triple j, Crack Magazine, Metal Magazine, Clash Magazine, Bandcamp, Billboard, Rolling Stone, 10 Magazine among others. This accompanied her 2022 debut mixtape Second Nature, which saw her move the needle and attribute an impressive list of major career milestones including NME Magazine Australia’s cover story, Best of the Year placements in The Guardian Australia, Apple Music and NME Magazine Australia and a nomination for Record of the Year at FBi Radio’s 2023 SMAC Awards.

On the live circuit, she wrapped up a North American tour with festival performances at Lollapalooza, Hard Summer, Breakaway Festival and Imagine Festival in 2023, a sold-out Los Angeles headline debut in 2024, and is soon touring the third iteration of her flagship live event Dark Crystal, with special guest NYC-based producer Doss. An artist innovating with forward-thinking club, pop, electronic, and dance music, the uniqueness of Ninajirachi’s abilities extends past virtual limits, charting her proposition in the winder electronic space both locally and globally.
