Electronic music trailblazer Ninajirachi today announces the fourth instalment of her curated club event Dark Crystal, with umru and MGNA Crrrta set to join Nina across dates in Eora / Sydney and Naarm / Melbourne this August. Tickets are on sale this Thursday, April 10, from 9am AEST – all ticketing information can be found HERE.
This year’s edition brings together two artists who have each been integral in Nina’s journey so far, and fit seamlessly into the world of Dark Crystal as innovative champions of the electronic underground. Speaking on this year’s curation, Nina shares, “there is girl edm and there is tour-based combat, angel music boy music and music period … this is the best lineup ever.”
With today’s announcement arriving at the heels of Ninajirachi vs. umru: Tour-Based Combat – the duo’s hugely successful co-headline tour of the US, with five sold-out shows – the saga will continue this August when Estonian-American musician umru arrives for this years’ events.
First emerging into the pop music zeitgeist with a production credit on Charli XCX’s cult-favourite 2017 mixtape Pop 2 umru was recruited at 18 by A. G. Cook to co-produce the highlight track ‘I Got It’. From the rapid transition from high school and online music circles, to collaborating with some of pop’s most boundary-breaking acts, umru’s work has gone on to excel in and help define the space right between underground & pop, from his star-studded 7-minute movinglikeazombie (remix) with ericdoa (named one of the Best Tracks of 2020 by NPR) to production for Yung Kayo, Caroline Polachek, Tommy Cash, or Fraxiom, to founding Moment, a curated sample pack label at Splice.
Equally prominent in the Ninajirachi extended universe are NYC’s MGNA Crrrta, who joined Nina on her first US tour last year before releasing their collaboration ‘Angel Music’—one of Billboard’s Top 50 dance songs of 2024. The electronic pop duo made up of Farheen Khan and Ginger Scott have built a dedicated following with their distinctive sound and striking visual aesthetic – shiny dresses, fake hair, rhinestone heels, golden tattoos, pounds of jewllery, and glitter. They’ve captured the attention of industry veterans: Hedi Slimane invited them to DJ at Celine’s Homme Summer afterparty in Paris, Uffie remixed their song ‘Girl Party’, and Ke$ha made a special appearance during their DJ set at Freakquencies – The Dare’s renowned club night in NYC.
First launched in 2022 as part of VIVID Festival, Dark Crystal is Ninajirachi’s dream lineup brought to life, quickly becoming a cornerstone for Australia’s new wave of underground EDM fans. Across past editions, Dark Crystal has showcased a forward-thinking lineup, featuring artists like Donatachi, Ravenna Golden, Lonelyspeck, Laces and Kenta204. Last year marked a major moment for the event, bringing NYC-based producer and DJ legend Doss for her first-ever Australian shows, alongside sets from Cherry Chola, 1NN3R 53LF, and Ninajirachi herself.
At only 24 years old, Ninajirachi has raised a flag for the new generation of Australian electronic artists on the international stage. Amongst scores of career milestones, from headlining shows across three continents, to her mainstage debut at EDC Las Vegas, 2024 most notably marked the release of Ninajirachi’s girl EDM EP – a term which has now evolved into an adjective, a genre, a celebrated catchphrase and symbol amongst Nina’s fans across the globe.
Ninajirachi has now launched into 2025 with the same extraordinary momentum, from traversing the country with Porter Robinson and Laneway Festival, before making a cosmic impact with her new single ‘All I Am’ – garnering global support across triple j (reaching #1 Most Played on the station), and marking her debut entry in the ARIA singles charts.
