Today, acclaimed singer-songwriter Odette makes her bold return with new single and video ‘Reverence’, alongside the announcement of a national east coast headline tour this September/October. LISTEN HEREWATCH HERE.

As a songwriter, Odette is as poetic as she is prolific, able to skilfully and gracefully articulate the most enigmatic, complex, and at times messy emotions in her lyrics. ‘Reverence’ is no different, seeing Odette offer a refreshing perspective on perseverance: finding the absurdity in everyday moments, and riding the waves without letting periods of strife anchor you down.

Daring, unconventional, and captivating from the very first listen, Odette pushes every boundary on ‘Reverence’ and further solidifies her position as a force to be reckoned with. The opening verse sets the stage with a soulful piano ballad, before a slick switch-up into piercing guitar riffs, frenetic live drums, and vocals that shift between powerful belts and breathy falsettos.

Speaking on the release, Odette shares, “I wanted to put a song into the world that lifts my heart and makes me laugh. I think in this song I’m laughing at my own anger in order to make it more bearable. Reverence is just as cathartic for me as it is an exercise in ridiculous fun.”

In the official music video also released today, Odette is fierce and unapologetic, ready to take on whatever life throws her way. “I just wanted to have fun and feel free”, Odette says on the video. “I moved however it felt good to move and my body bent around in different ways and it made my body feel warm and tingly. It felt amazing. Making this video is some of the most fun I have had in a really long time and that’s the whole point of being alive isn’t it? To find fun in very dark and serious places. I think it is. Because these places aren’t going away any time soon, so neither am I. I’m a bard at the service of the people and the people should be dancing more.”

Along with today’s new single comes the announcement of Odette’s upcoming Australian East Coast headline tour kicking off this September. Possessing an effortlessly charismatic stage presence that has seen her completely sell out all of her previous headline tours, Odette is excited to bring her high energy and witty banter to Meanjin / Brisbane, Naarm / Melbourne and Eora / Sydney this spring.

Born in England and raised in Eora / Sydney’s inner west, Odette has consistently carved a lane of her own with her unique blend of confessional piano-led balladry and spoken-word poetry, elevated by polished pop production. She’s received critical acclaim and chart success with her releases, having earned a total of four ARIA Award nominations including Breakthrough Artist, Platinum Certification for ‘Lights Out’, plus three further Gold Certified singles under her belt – including her breakthrough debut single ‘Watch Me Read You’.

Her 2018 debut album, To a Stranger, landed at #13 on the ARIA Album Chart and #1 on the Apple Music Chart, and paved the way for her groundbreaking follow up Herald. Released in early 2021, the record drew heavily on themes of growth and mental health, building on the rhythmic poetry and piano style of her debut while adding more experimental production and electronic elements.

Having performed at countless major Australian music festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Yours and Owls, plus international showcase festivals SXSW in Austin and The Great Escape in the UK, she’s gone on to play headline tours across the UK and Europe, and share stages supporting the likes of Sam Smith, CIty and Colour, and The Teskey Brothers. Tickets to Odette’s upcoming tour are on sale now.
